I have never tied dyed before. I think I MIGHT have once in summer camp. How do you do it? THANKS!

I have been tie dying for a few years now. I love prefolds dyed. Although they are not my best sellers they have their rightful place in my colorful world.

If you are dying for your personal needs I would sugget going to your local library to borrow a book on dying. Store bought dyes should serve you well for your initial diapers out of the starting gate.

Have fun!

I have been thinking about doing this but what has stopped me is the thought that prefolds will absorb an awful lot of dye. Do they? Is it better to dye them when they are new, before they are washed a bunch of times to make them...welll...absorb better?

I suggest using Procion dyes over rit. They won't fade and give really vibrant colors. Check out http://www.dharmatrading.com/. Great site

I must agree -- I approached it the above way because many times people will dye once and abandon the idea. The Rit is a good way to see if you like it first before making the investment in the FRD materials needed. Just to ship the Soda Ash is $11.00.

The procion dyes will be very vibrant and good for actual tie dying. If you just want to dye your diapers single colors you can try dylon (you can get at joanns for a couple bucks) and have good outcome with that.
