If diagnosed with HELLP...

for the first birth, will every homebirth midwife turn me down for the 2nd baby?
The obgyn diagnosed it without seeing me (the on-call midwife was there). She and all nurses disagreed with his diagnose. It is in my medical records though. The midwife and nurses thought that my platelet count was low due to a slight placental rupture (it came 4 minutes after DS, with tremendous clots and amounts of blood); my liver enzymes turned out to be screwed due to an intolerance of Tylenol. My pressure was 140/90, wow how high is that throughout back labor.
Anyways, it's in the medical record, so will I have any chance? Otherwise I'll consider UC I guess.

I wouldn't rule you out of homebirth for what you describe. But you probably need to find out what the rules are in CA for hb mws where HELLP diagnosis is concerned. I would consider your best bet for a healthy preg/birth next time, to be working toward homebirth w/a midwife knowledgeable of nutrition/lifestyle factors that can help you/baby stay healthy. Only a very small number of women are predisposed to pre-e/HELLP by genetic factors--most can be helped with the right attention to, most especially, nutrition and stress-management.

good luck!

My sister lost a baby due to complications which they were pretty sure was hellp. She was very sick and needed blood transfusions, ended up with an emergency c-section and nearly died. The baby did die 2 hrs after birth because she was only 24w3d and my sister asked that the baby not be put through the torture of medical intervention. Since my sister was septic she was not allowed to have a spinal so she had general anesthesia and never even saw the baby alive, my mom and I held her until she passed. Now, my sister went through all this and even she was able to get a midwife this time around. She is choosing to use the birth center but the midwife offered to attend her at home if she wanted. The only stipulation is that she has to check my sisters liver enzyme levels almost every visit, but to avoid the hospital and have a chance at a vbac, she doesn't mind. I would think you would be able to find someone.
