There was a HUGE, AWESOME tribe for a long time on this topic, but for the life of me I can't find it again...

So the season is upon us. Any mamas planning their festival tours yet?

We're going to a big festival here in a couple of weeks, and I've never camped at a festival before, and now I'll be doing it with a 3 year old, a ten week old, and my never-been-camping-before sisters!! What are your best tips for having a good, relaxed time at a festival with kids? What's the thing you CAN'T forget? What do you do when your kids get tired and cranky? What cooks up quickly and is popular over the camp fire? Anything else that would be helpful to know?

Shine on, sisters, and happy dancing!

Me me me!!! We are a bluegrass family. We just moved to NC and we're super excited about all of the bluegrass here. I am counting the days until MerleFest next month. We're not camping this year, just going for one day to check out the vibe. If there is a bluegrass festival in or around NC, we're going to try to hit it this year. FESTIVAAAAAAL!!! :

We have not camped with kids yet, but we scoped out what other families were doing at festivals the past few years. A sun shade, like a Kelty, seems to be key. We did RockyGrass in Lyons, and they had an area in back specifically for them.

Where are some good places to find where some festivals are going to be? Our girls are older and we are planing on hitting as many as we can this year!!

JamBase is good, I've heard. I tend to ask people who live in my area since we don't travel far and wide. Then, too, you can get a good feel on the festival (especially if you ask people who have kids, too).

We really like Shakori Hills ( they have a website, but you'd have to google it...cause I'm lazy...lol) and LEAF. Also, here in NC, Deerfields ( google that too if you want, I'm sure they have a site) has awesome multiple festivals ever year. All of these are super family friendly!!

We were just considering Shakori Hills the other day! We're undecided. We need to plan out the fests we know we're going to and see if there is anything left in the budget for others.
