Little House on the Prairie! I can't be the only one watching re-runs.

It's my somewhat guilty pleasure.... only not so guilty.

I started watching when I was preg with dd in 05. It came on right before my afternoon nap (wow, I miss having napping luxury). Now I watch it early in the morning because it happens to be on when ds wakes to BF. I sometimes catch another episode on in the afternoon as well.

LHotP was the first exposure I had to the idea of unmedicated birth as well as some more traditional family values (shared house work, the importance of family time, growing your own food, tending children, the diversity and imporantce of women's many roles, etc). It also reminds me of the importance of getting outdoors and encouraging kids to explore. Strangly I think I've learned a lot from the show over the years.

Anyone else enjoy it despite the terrible film and sound quality? Favorite characters, episodes, messages?

I watch it everyday at 5 p.m. I've learned a lot from that show over the years. I don't need a big house to have love in it. I prefer horse driven vehicles over modern vehicles. I really loved the show when the entire cast had been implemented like Adam, Almanzo, baby Grace, Albert. Then some real *family* living happened. It was a triumph when Laura and Almanzo finally got together. I've had some communication with Dean Butler who still is so proud of having played that role and there is a great publication that LIW did about her husband Almanzo. You can check it out on youtube.

I love that show!!
We don't have cable anymore but I used to watch it whenever it was on.
Currently, we're reading the Little House books.

it often humbles me. I see their tiny little house, plain clothes (although still beautiful), ma's hair always up with no fuss, little time away from chores and working to feed their family... and still they're happy. I know they aren't a real family (although based on a real family) but I know there are families like that today. Lately I've been watching the early episodes so no Adam, Almanzo, baby Grace, or Albert yet. I watched all through the episodes a couple years ago but, now that they are playing over it's like they are all new again.

I haven't read the books. Not much of a novel reader unfortunatly. But, if I do so decide to read maybe I'll read those! When I first got into the show I didn't have satelite but, thankfully it was on regular TV at the time. Now I have satelite and DVR so I can watch it any ol' time I want! You could always buy it on DVD....

The Golden Girls is one of the only shows I regularly watch, and now that they've moved to the Hallmark Channel they just happen to be on right before Little House. So I never really watched Little House before but I've caught a few episodes in the past week or so and I can't believe what a freakin' awesome show it is. I LOVE it!! How many seasons are there? I could seriously cozy up on the couch and watch it all day. And the next chance I have for a lazy day, that's exactly what I'm going to do.

I also wanted to add, I remember a few years back when Michael Landon passed away, and I was like, "Oh that's sad," But other people I knew were SO broken up over it. I totally get it now.

I love that show. I love the books too. I remember watching reruns growing up. There are so many good episodes, but I think some of my favorites are the early seasons. I always thought it was cast so perfectly, down to the supporting cast.

Oh wow, I Little House and thought maybe I was the only adult that still like watching it. I like seeing it with new eyes...the same episodes that I wached as a child seem so different now.

agreed about the casting. Apparently the actress that played nasty Nellie origionally auditioned for the role of Laura. It may have changed the dynamic a bit if she had been cast differently... she did so well at being a horrid little child.

nope! I didn't see it for the first time untill I was 20 because I just never thought it would be my kind of show. After accidentally watching it a couple times I was hooked! When I started watching I was pregnant. Now, watching after having 2 children the meaning and perspective has changed so much.

Same here! Little Girl Lost (when Carrie falls down the mineshaft), Blizzard, the Typhoid one, but my favorite one is The Richest Man in Walnut Grove - that's the true meaning of family. working together to make it through the hard times.

I remember watching it back in the 70's snuggled up on the couch with my mother from the time I was about 5 years old. We both loved that show so much!

have you watched it since?

We own them all. I first watched them as re-runs (I was born in 78) with my grandpa when I was around 7-8. We'd watch it and The People's Court together and eat gumdrops and honey roasted cashews.

I love Michael Landon (he was a controversial dude IRL) and cried like a baby when he died. He died and a month later my grandpa died.

I LOVE this show. My favorite of all time. The Wonder Years ranks #2.

The episodes that horrifed me the most:

Carrie down the mineshaft

Sylvia getting raped (I can't believe they showed this on TV really!)

Albert getting hooked on morphine and barfing all over when he goes through withdrawals.

I loved Albert, seriously hot.

(My husband cries like a baby during these shows, it's quite endearing.)

I liked the episode where Ma's leg is infected & she looks in the Bible & sees the verse, "If thy leg offends thee, cut it off..." & then she gets a huge sharp shiny knife... cut to commercial. Awesome.

The episode where Albert is dying & Pa makes Laura say, "My brother Albert is going to die. My brother ALBERT is going to DIE..." So sad but so good.

I love this show. I actually dressed up as Laura for Halloween one year- & it was a storebought costume with one of those masks with the elastic band- how funny is that??

I love Little House too! I watch it almost every day at 5 pm as well. It's nice to know there are other people who watch it as well, my husband teases me a bit for watching all the reruns.
