Do you enjoy reading scripture (as in a few chapters not just a verse or 2) or do you do it because you feel you have to if you do it at all?

I'd love it if you can share why or why not!

ETA- Darn! I was hoping I could edit the poll as I thought of better options. Sorry

I said sometimes, I find it really depends on my mood. I don't find it good brain candy reading, or relaxing, though I know some people do.

I really like to hear it read out loud, if the reader is talented.

Depends on the sitch.

I love reading Scripture in the context of a classroom study/Bible study, with a teacher who really knows their stuff.

Reading Scripture to find answers to specific questions and in planning prayer services or a youth group session is enjoyable for me.

I've also had some really profound times of Scripture reading when I was in prayer and discerning what the Lord was trying to say to me.

Just sitting down and reading it, though ... I don't enjoy that as much.

I love reading scripture so much that I read it even though it's outside of my spiritual tradition. In fact, any religious text I can get my hands on, it's fair game to me.

Champagne Blossom's words reflect my thoughts. I enjoy reading Scripture when I want to read it, if you know what I mean. The other night I read through Romans and enjoyed it so much. (Really!) I am reading through the Qu'ran and enjoying it. I don't like, though, when I am told to read a specific transation or a specific portion of the Bible. I'll open it up and read it as I choose and the whim, spirit guides me. I also enjoy reading any religious text from all walks of life.

I enjoy reading when I am looking for certain answers, when I set time aside to read & pray, and especially when I have a devotional guide or commentary to read along with the scripture so that I understand it better.

I wish I enjoyed reading it so much that I read every day, but it's harder work than that! I do enjoy reading the Psalms all the time and there are certain books that I know well enough that I really like reading them over and over, like Romans. But, I have taken a number of Bible classes in college. I think it would be really difficult to read scripture without any background knowledge or help.

Absolutely! The Orthodox have a lectionary (schedule of readings) and we go through the entire NT, aside from Revelation, each year. Several OT books are read during Lent. I do a lot of reading on my own. Psalms every day.

I do love reading the Scriptures. It is like hearing God's voice spoke just to me. I can get to know who He is, what He is like, and how He opperates.

There is just something wonderful to see His history and who He is. Especially since He never changes, and is the same today as He was in the past. And since I want my relationship with Him to deepen with each day, I love reading what He has to say.

I said yes... but of course just like anything else i enjoy doing i doesn't mean every morning i wake up and run to the Bible and say "woohoo!!!!" LOL and sure, sometimes I do it b/c I think it will benefit me even if I don't feel like it. but all in all I like it.

Sometimes I love it, sometimes I don't. I typically won't slog through reading a passage if it's not speaking to me. (To answer your question.) Especially now with a baby. I kind of go in seasons of reading scripture a lot, and seasons of reading more contemporary spiritual writings. I'm in a more contemporary spiritual writings season at the moment.

Does anyone every listen to the Scriptures? I really like putting it on (on mp3 format) and listening to it as I go about my business. I also like to listen to it as I follow along with my Bible. It helps me to keep pace as well as keep me from reading it incorrectly.

Kidz- I've not done that before... btu mostly b/c I like to read and reread some lines for clarity. I think I would get lost too easily!

but yeah... like healthy eating, it is GOOD and I enjoy it, but some days when I would rather eat ice cream all day long, I still try to remain relatively health on the others heh

I download mp3's of sermons from a couple of different churches and listen to them while I'm cleaning houses (part-time), and I'm waiting on a CD set of the NT to come in from the library so I can add it to my ipod.

I like to read Scripture slowly, best in a Bible study format, so I can really dig into it, rather than "just" reading it. I used to belong to a Bible study group that would focus on one book at a time, and we'd only read a few chapters a week. I don't live there anymore, but I really liked doing it that way. I'm now in a Beth Moore Bible Study, which is good, but not the same.

I wouldn't consider myself a Biblical scholar by any stretch of the imagination, and reading slowly and having a book or two that helps me to understand what I'm reading is the best way for me.

But if I'm home at night and it's quiet and I go to pick up a book to read, no, it's not the Bible.

What I really like about listening to the Bible is that I can become familiar with what it says before I actually go to study it.

This way when I sit down to go through it slowly and deliberatly it will not be something totally new, but I will at least vagely remember the words or concept.

My MP3's are broke down by chapters, so I can pick and choose what I want to listen to and base it on what I am going to study.

I enjoy it.

I really enjoy reading the Bible - which is of course a good thing. However, I sometimes worry that I read the Bible to avoid praying because I have trouble praying. I wish I would read less and talk to God more.

I honestly absolutely love reading the bible. Kind of like what Kidza said. Its like food for my soul/spirit/whateveryousay. I love it. There are times when I do find it hard to get into, when its just words on paper, dry times, but I do tend to press on, or just read a few verses a day if Im in a place like that, meditate on just one verse all day kind of thing. I do love love love reading scripture tho. I guess Im at a place atm where I kind of cant get enough, tho. lol.

I like researching topics in the Bible more than anything. I do read it chapters/hours at a time sometimes but I don't always do it.
I agree with HennyPenny: There are a lot of things I like to do but I'm not always that self disciplined. (Eating well, gardening, cleaning, and reading Scripture)
