Not immune to Rubella?

Hi All- Quick Question.

DH and I are ttc #1. We plan on delaying vaccinations or not vaxing at all. A couple of years ago, I had titers done for MMR (worked at hospital) and it came back that I have no immunity to Rubella. I'm reading that Rubella is important for women of child birthing years- should I go get vaxed? I'm awaiting my vopy of Dr. Sears book.

I'm thinking it'd be a waste of time bc I had all of my vaxes as a child (including MMR series) and an extra set as an adult when I joined the military. If I didn't get immunity then, why would I now?

Odds are you are one of those women who is NEVER going to show immunity to it. I was one as well. I had my series as a kid, then a shot as a junior in highschool (due to measles outbreak at my HS, haha!), then when I had my ds at 28, I was told I had "lost immunity". Not having begun my vax research, I was given the shot the day I left the hospital.... I felt like *bleep* for months.....I was also breastfeeding and NOONE bothered to mention that the crap passes in breastmilk....::... can you tell it's a sore spot?

Anyways, it's your call. Apparently my doc must have known my titers were low or nill when I was preggo (I assume because they did blood work), which means I made it through my entire pregnancy w/o immunity. The risk is that if your exposed to rubella during your early trimesters, problems can occur. here's a link: http://www.medinfo.co.uk/conditions/rubella.html

So in the end it's up to you. You could take another dose on the chance that it will give you immunity- but I would not ttc for a few months after. Or cross your fingers, close your eyes and go for it. I had no idea I was not immune, and my ds is fine. So it's a crap shoot I guess... You have to remember millions of healthy babies were born before the MMR too, so....

Goodluck on ttc!
