going natural

So after my dd drank some bath and body works body spray that i dont even use I was tempted to throw everything in my cabinet away! But then I figured that might not be a good idea until I find something to replace it. So I would love to learn about making a lot of the things we use. I already make all my cleaning products with bs and vinegar mostly. I use Natures Baby or Burts bees for the kids soap and shampoo. But Im still not totally comfortable with it. I have no idea about any of this stuff! What can I use for soap, shampoo and conditioner for me and my girls? We only bath the kids every other day now but in the summer it will have to be every day. I dont like the smell of sweaty kids. Also, I have kind of bad skin. My face is really oily and breaks out if I dont use Proactive:, especially since I got my period back. What can I use for that? Any lotion tips? My mil makes lotion too but Im sure its not natural. She said she had a vegan goats milk soap for me And she makes her soap out of lard, which makes a horrible film on my tub, so no more of that. And deo, I dont use it now but I thought about finding something to use for this summer. I forgot about toothpaste and mouthwash. Thank you so so much, I cant wait to hear what you all have to say!

This forum is a good place to start.

You can do individual searches for each product you're looking for and you'll find a slew of recipes and info here.

As for checking storebought products, the cosmetics database is also a good place to check. They rate products with their own hazard rating system. www.cosmeticsdatabase.com

And finally, the only other advice I can offer is to allow yourself some time for trial and error. Not every routine works for everyone so you'll want to test one new item at a time to see if it works for you. Switching to deodorant for example: if you've been using antiperspirant, there may be a detox period when you switch to natural deodorants.

Good luck to you.

yep, all the info is here on this forum! but here's what we do thus far-we're still working on a lot

my face wash: oil cleansing method every other night, raw honey wash every other night. both followed by rose water toner and then oil of choice to moisturize if needed. morning, just rinse with water then rose water as toner and moisturizer. soon-sunblock!

shampoo-i'll check out the cosmetic database soon, but i've heard a lot on here about shampoo bars for hair and body-might try.

for our 10 month old, i use california baby sensitive but i might look a little further for something. i only wash his hair twice a week and every night for bath just his bum and any area that might have gotten stinky if at all. i dont want to mess with his natural oils and such!

we use toms toothpaste, but just learned it has glycerin, so i'll look for something else!

mouthwash-just tea tree oil and water. a couple drops per cup.

use bare minerals makeup but a lot of folks here like kt naturals

for moisturizer, people just use an oil like safflower.

hope this helps a bit!
