Ideas Please for Super Lowkey Weaning Party

Thread Starter
My almost five year old weaned about a month ago (woo hoo!!!). I offered and she says she would like to have a weaning party. We've invited six good friends over next Friday for a little tea party in celebration of her weaning, springtime and moving forward!! Nothing fancy. I'm making brownies and tea. I'm wondering if you have any ideas about any activities I could incorporate into our get-together?

Thanks.

Y'know, we didn't do a party (Maya finished nursing in December, will be six in July). But if we did, I'd have her decide what it should be like. :-)

That said, she did have a time when she and her friends acknowledged it. We're homeschooling right now and our enrichment group facilitator told some stories of animals finishing nursing. The children all shared stories about growing up, whatever they wanted to talk about. I wasn't there for it, but it sounded very special. I also made cupcakes with a little candy on the top, nipple style (without being obvious ;-).

Actually, I think the cake said that.

My daughter and I celebrated by making chocolate covered strawberries...her choice.

She loved it!

No advice from me, but I'm subbing to this thread for future reference!

My dd's weaning party was a year ago. A few of our and her close friends were invited.
She got a new dress for the occasion (it's too small now, but she still treasures it and wants it yo be kept in her "baby box")
We had cake and balloons and everyone drew or wrote something on a white T-shirt in honor of the special day.
I had bought a "mother-and-child-necklace" that I presented her (and me) with in memory of our wonderful nursing relationship.
We danced and fooled around together and had a lot of fun.
She has fond memories of this day. So have I.:

We made cupcakes that we frosted with light pink frosting and then put gumdrop "nipples" in the middle. The kids still talk about the "nursie cupcakes"!

When dd weaned at 4yrs4mos we had a small party with 4 or 5 close friends, aunties and nana, grandma. We had a castle cake, punch, made a special glittery and stickered sign together that said "Anna's Happy Weaning"~ that later hung on the wall in her room forever, we painted rocks we found in the yard.

It was wonderful!
Ds was 3 years 9 mos when he weaned~ he didn't want want a party/ anything really, so we just went out for ice cream one night as a family.
DD2 is just 17 mos and still going strong .
Ds was never quite the nurser dd1 was, and dd2 is similar to dd1. I'm pretty sure she has looong to go yet.

That sounds so lovely, as to all of the ideas. Thanks for sharing, this really helps me when I am having challenges with my 27 month old - it reminds me why I'm going to let her wean when she is ready

I love this thread... planning a weaning party for C soon. I just wish we were where I used to live where I knew lots of older nurslings. She's the oldest I know of now (5.5 yo.) It would be more special if there were other kids who also remembered nursing, I feel like...

Do only dd's have / want this??

Will a boy (like, say, my ds1 ;-) ) also appreciate this or is it a womanthing, cause dd's will/can give milk too in future, so it has a different meaning?

I was wondering the same thing.

DS turned 5 a couple of weeks ago and nurses once a day (at bedtime although he no longer nurses to sleep).

I'd like to do something when he decides to wean but I don't think he'd like a party.

Certainly we don't know anyone IRL who is his age and still nursing or probably even remembers nursing.

My DD self-weaned at 15 months when I was 3 months PG with DS. She would have loved a party/some kind of commemoration had she been older.

I am 25.5 weeks PG. Doesn't seem to bother DS at all.

I am going away for 4 nights (first time being away from my kids for more than 1 night ever) in May on business. Maybe he will stop nursing then.
