Surprise baby shower - so sweet!

So I didn't think I'd be having any kind of baby shower at all, since I have lived in my current home only one year and my family and dear friends are scattered across the nation.

I did join a mom's group at the beginning of my pregnancy, and am getting to know some of the women in that group pretty well. Some of them I really click with. But we get together maybe once every two weeks, and trade posts online just a bit more often. I never expected they would throw me a baby shower. They did...a surprise shower!

If anyone had asked if I wanted one, I would have said no (would have felt it was an imposition on women I don't know super well). But it was so much fun! And it seemed so genuinely heart felt. Many of them made gifts (a beautiful cake, a bouquet of baby socks, a ring sling, a taggy toy), or shared used items in good condition.

My husband was a full accomplice, and such a smooth operator, I had no clue. Just had to share the warm fuzzies I'm feeling!

Not your DDC, but I just wanted to say that is so sweet and wonderful. I know what it's like to be in a new place and have friends but no one close - now you really know you have some people who "have your back". Lovely!

How nice! It is so good to see women band together to do something nice for someone else like that!

That is so sweet , I love that a lot of the items were pre-loved or handmade - I would definitely be ok with a baby shower if I knew no one felt obligated to spend money on me.

That's great Amybird!!! I know how you feel, I also had an unexpected mother blessing which was so nice!

A friend/neighbour invited me for tea last Sunday and several other friends were there and everyone had good wishes for me. Someone read me a poem, another had a song for us to listen to, one will be burning sage for me, a few had small objects which meant something to them they passed on to me. We drank tea in vintage teacups and ate mini-scones. It was such a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
