sewing machine problems

ok i know nothing about sewing machines except for i have one and i "try" to use it. It is a very old singer that has been hardly used. I inherited it from dhs great aunt. I am trying to make some diapers (just some fitteds from flannel). As the inner soaker i am using terry cloth. I guess it was to thick because the thread kept bunching up underneath and into the bobbin deal ) Now I cant get the bobbin thread to pull up to the top and my needle thread keeps getting stuck in the bobbin ...deal (sorry really dont know how else to explain)If this is making any sence then what am i doing wrong?? How can i fix this??

Have you taken the bobbin case completely apart & cleaned it? If not, you probably have a ton of lint in there which is jamming everything up. Also, did you ever get the machine serviced?

No i have not did either of those. This machine was barely used. Id say its from the 60's and it still had all the original needles.I will probably need to take it somewere since it sat for long.

My mom told me that terry cloth is very hard on needles. You may need a bigger needle.
