Dry Pail Question

I know I have been posting a lot today... but I have another question!! Currently we use a dry pail, with a wet bag as a liner. I think I might ditch the wetbag and just dump straight from the pail to the washer, then wipe out the pail... but is there anything I can stick in there to help with the smell? I was every couple days so it isn't like they are just sitting there stagnating...

Smell

We use 5 gallon pails for diapers and don't have a liner. We have used these things called "perky pucks" to help with the smell before, but honestly, I found that leaving the lid off the pail was what helped the most. The diapers just dry out and don't stink at all.

There are little citrus discs that are popular for dry pails and a lot of WAHMs make their own deodorizing powders. We used to use both and I liked the powders better. Now, we have a bathroom connected to our room and we keep the diapers in a laundry bag hanging from the towel rod in there. It doesn't smell or anything, but its just diapers with pee because we EC and catch all the poops.

I loved this in "Satsumi Twist."

After dumping the contents into the laundry, I used to soak the inside of the container with some hot water and borax for about a half hour and this helped a lot.

Thanks for the rec!! I think I will try some of that... the smell doesn't bother me much but it definitely bothers DH so I figure it can't hurt to try something!!

I just sprinkle Borax in the bottom, or if I'm out, 4-5 drops of TTO.

I also leave the lid off

DH would freak if I left the lid of the pail!! He seems to think the diapers should be in some sort of airlock...

Maybe a little baking soda in the bottom of the pail?

We do a dry pail without a liner & I've honestly never noticed it stinks that bad. When we're CD FT I wash about every other day.

Frankly, I think the wet bags I have hanging on a hook right next to the changing table stink way worse. They're the type with the pretty exterior material, waterproof layer inside & a zipper all along the top. Maybe it's just because we don't CD all the time, but now when I put wet ones in them by the end of the day the whole room smells like pee.

So now I just toss the wet dipes into the pail in the bathroom. Problem solved.

I've used Citrus Circles for years and it's helped with any smells that might come up.

I use a dry pail w/o a liner. After I drop the dipes and wipes into the washing machine, I rinse out the pail w/ water. If it has a stink, I spritz with either diluted Bac-Out or a diluted bleach water solution.

Yeah, the powder stuff I suggested is mostly baking soda, but it smells sooo good. Also, we use cloth wipes and we spray them with a mixture of water, tea tree oil, and grapeseed oil and our bathroom mostly smells like that now. The tea tree oil really helps.

Oh, and I stopped using the citrus discs because the smell was too strong for me and I'd always forget to take them out when I went to wash! The baking soda actually helps to get your diapers cleaner.

I had used a pail for my dd and saved it and used it along with another again for two in diapers 10+ years later -- no liner, straight dump into washer.

A little piece of Micro fleece with a drop or two of my fav essential oil was a cheap fix and smell good trick with me. Do your homework on Lavender if you have a boy though, I think there could be some possible flags. I liked citrus, grapefruit, orange, lemon, or lemongrass or lavender.
