butt-soaker waistband

The wool sweater I bought to make a butt sweater doesn't have a ribbed waist. Any suggestions on how to make the waist fit? I could put in elastic or I could put in a draw string, I guess. This is for night use for a 14 mo old.

I am a beginner to sewing wool covers. But that sounds like a good idea. I got about 4 wool covers from a sweater and two of the covers doesn't have the ribbed waist(just fabric from the sweater body), I am thinking a draw string or some elastic also.

I would put in elastic. My little ones always untie drawstrings, and with elastic you can just pull it up and be done with it!

I've used fleece for the waistband and leg cuffs.
