covers causing dry eczema-like patches on DD2

We have 5 covers we rotate throughout the day. 2 Dappi, 2 Proraps, and 1 Motherease I need to replace the Dappis with a bigger size. Anyway, lately I've noticed dry patches of skin on both of DD2's sides where the cover hits. They are rather large and seem to be getting bigger. Any ideas on why this is happening, or what I can do to help it heal?

I'm guessing an allergy to either PUL or Poly - I'm not sure what your covers have on the inside (polyester or PUL).....OR if it's just the binding - try some with a different binding material. Wool is a nice option.

Can you tell if it happens with all the covers? Is is on the side itself, like from the binding, or could it be velcro rubbing? It's hard to tell without seeing...

The patches are circular and rough. They aren't raised or red, and probably wouldn't show much on a photo. My covers I believe are PUL and the Dappis are probably vinyl. It's on the side, none on the front. I can't really afford anything fancy, but might look for some used wool covers.

I wonder if you adjusted the tightness of the cover if it would help - looser or tighter? I tend to think it might need to go tighter - if the diaper is loose enough to rub around, it could be a problem. But it is possible to have an allergy... does baby have anything else polyester like fleece or something that gives them problems?

Wool is a great option. If you do any sewing or knitting you can make your own...

I had this to with DD2--it eventually turned into really, really nasty eczema that we needed a steroid cream to clear up. The Doc said she was allergic to polyester (what PUL covers are made from). Plus I had fleece lining in a bunch of my dipes, which is also poly. We switched to cotton prefolds and wool covers (I love the Imse Vimse wool, because you can just trifold a prefold in there and slap the dipe on--super quick and easy) and haven't had a problem since.

DD1 has eczema from both food and environmental allergies, so I cringed when I noticed it. I so hope not - please just dry skin. I think I might could loosen the bigger covers up a bit. I like things as tight as I can get them when diapering. Maybe I'm going too tight. She has the fake fleece sleepers and such that doesn't bother her at all, so I don't know. I need a few new covers anyway, so I'm going to www.myuseddiapers.com to see what is going on there. Maybe I can find something I can try.

This happens to my kids no matter what the material - wool, pul, nylon, whatever. It is just friction. I put Aquaphor on those spots (or lanolin) and it helps immensely. It is like when you wear some tight jeans and end up with red spots on your waist.
