There is going to be a lot of restructuring in our Diocese over the next year or two, praying that we will be kept open!
Take heart, mama! My parish is a tiny little mission chapel, literally next to the railroad tracks in a less-than-well-to-do hamlet. About 18 years ago, with a severely dwindling congregation, we were on the verge of closing; and at that time our deacon took over as Pastoral Administrator, and made some dramatic changes. Now we are bursting at the seams, with lots of young families, a thriving faith formation program, and more liturgical ministers (including many RE students) than many larger churches. Although we are technically a mission church, we are totally self-sustaining; and we just recently survived a big round of parish closings and consolidations in our diocese.

I'm in a diocese that is trying to deal with a severe shortage of priests. PLDs & Pastoral Admins have dispensation to perform most liturgical duties, with the exception of consecration.

In our church, the DRE has given the homily at special youth services, and even the youth group kids are (rightly, IMO) being encouraged to do so!

Well, I won't heat up the discussion. I will simply long for the traditional/orthodox thread that I used to think was a bad idea.

I guess it just shows we can't all just get along, can we?

Who isn't getting along?

Happy Easter, everyone!!

Let's get our thread back up on the front page!

Happy Easter!:

I'll bow out. I thought we'd got past all that, but obviously my presence here still brings hostility and a lack of participation to the thread.

Carry on, mamas.

Should we have a separate discussion on this topic, because I am seriously intrigued...

By the way, Happy Easter everyone.

I am sorry if my post seemed hostile. I perceived your position as hostile to the teaching authority of the Church, which has consistently reiterated that while there is certainly a time and a place for lay preaching, the homily is not it. I wish everyone a joyous Easter as well.

Sigh ....

All right ....
I need/want some MDC Catholic mommas to chat with, and it's APRIL!! Why are we still in a MArch thread??

Hope you all had a Blessed Easter! I didn't get as much accomplished as I wanted to during Lent, but I think I am going to use it as a springboard for the rest of the year.

So I'm not the only one who does this... Lent is great for showing me what needs work and to start something great, but it is far too short a time to make me perfect.

Hi all. I wanted to join the thread. I've lately been feeling drawn more and more to my faith. I was raised Catholic and over the past ten years or so have gone between Easter/Christmas mass attendance, and semi-regular attendance. I am trying to go weekly, but get overwhelmed managing my two little ones alone. I recently posted about that topic! As they get a bit older (4 & 2), it's getting easier, but the 2 yo is still quite a handful.

Does anyone go to Latin masses? I'd really like to go to one, and there is one right near me. Are they generally longer? I'm not sure about bringing the kids, so I might have to have someone watch them for me to go.

Hugs to you!!

I have no advice on a Latin Mass, since I've never been to one. (hanging head in shame!)
