Not satisfied with nursing back to sleep, switching from one breast to the next fussy....I get up and think...he's hungry....I open the fridge and he about jumps ut of my hands trying to get food. He just ate half a bowl of pasta with meat sauce and chugged down 2 oz of ebm. Now he's singing himself to slep in my arms.

If i need to get up at midnight to feed him what is easier and more filling as well as nutritious that i can give? Im so tired........this is ridiculous. i hate it. im uncomfortable and i despise night nursing. Im a pacifier till he gets so ravenous that i want to chop my boobs off.

HELP!!!! ITS 1230 AM! IM TIRED! nak

Is this the 11 month old? I notice you are pregnant--- has your supply dropped? There is a good chance that DS is just not getting enough.

Is he drinking formula? How is he eating during the day? Is there anything he enjoys eating that would be easier to keep on hand for late night hungrys?

Have you been tracking his weight now that you are pg? I would consider doing so with that young of a child. Is he getting enough fat in his diet?

Good luck and congrats!

Yes. I think so, and Oh greaat, thats what Im worried about.

He's not drinking formula, but eating and nursing well during the day. I have no idea what to give him in the middle of the night. Tonight in my tired stupor all I could think was "oh, pasta, there ya go, carbs, get FULL! Carb coma!"

I think keeping track of his weight is a good idea. Im trying to keep his fat intake high, lots of butter, coconut oils, olive oils etc. I wonder How to really tell......

Thanks for the quick reply!

I got pg with DS when DD was 23 months. Her weight really flat lined while I was pg and then she put on 5 lbs really quickly after he was born when that new fatty milk came in. I just weighed her each time I went to the midwifes to make sure it wasn't nosediving or anything.

I'm sure you already know this, but lots of nursling's weight gain really levels off sometimes in the 2nd half of the 1st year. So don't immediately assume it is a nursing issue.

I would consider adding a fat & protein rich snack before bedtime if you can. And make sure you are drinking a LOT of water. I never realized what a big difference it made until DS was a little older and he would actually bring me a glass of water when we went to bed so I could "make more milk"

I'm not sure what foods your DS likes. I would probably consider something like a protein bar--- easy to eat and really filling. I know the Odwalla one are *really* filling and my kids liked them pretty well when they were 2-6ish. You might also just want to try some water. I would really not want to get up and have a snack every night--- definately a habit I would not want to get into long term.

You might want to repost this on breastfeeding beyond infancy and/or CLW because people with older nurslings are more likely to have faced this issue.
