Please help!

My ds is 4 and has been complaining since yesterday that his penis hurt. I didn't see anything yesterday but this am the end is all red and there is what looks like some white puss on the end.. He is still complaining of it hurting.

He is not circ'd. I know nothing about penises so i am at a loss, it does look painful though. Should I bring him in?

you may want to edit your title.

Maybe a yeast infection.

Tons of water, limit sugar intake, add probiotics + yogurt, kefir, that kind of stuff.

Hugs to him.

I would take him in and have it checked out, it sounds infected especially with the pus.

Here is a thread you may find helpful http://www.mothering.com/discussions....php?t=764732?

I am thinking normal separation issues this kind of thing happens a lot when separation is occurring. I am not ruling out and infection yet but giving it 24-48 hours before rushing to the Dr. is the way I would go.

If you know for a FACT your Dr. knows about the intact penis then you can take him in but if your Dr. dosnt then you risk them just saying infection and sending you to a urologist for circ :

This is probably just normal smegma and some separation trauma. As said before, just give it a couple days. If the condition does not get worse, there is no swelling then it is highly unlikely to be an infection. Bacterial infections are pretty rare. If there is a rash or peeling then it could be yeast, but I don't think so based on your description. Just sounds like a little separation trauma. If it stings when he pees you can have him urinate in a cup of water.

Warning---Don't ever let a doctor manipulate his foreskin. A culture can be done by swabbing the very tip, NO retraction.

Let us know how things are in about 48 hours. Remember the foreskin is very vascular so when separation occurs there can be redness and a small amount of swelling and you may or may not see some smegma. Smegma is not infection.

Well MY doctor is Very good about never ever even touching my boy's, she always leaves them alone and tells me to do the same. The problem is that I doubt I could get into her in any decent amount of time and I am afraid to take him to a doctor that I don't know in case they were to try to retract.

Thanks for all the advice... I will take the wait and see approach for now, I did pick up some yeast infection cream and am more inclined to try that before I would bring him in anyways.

I had never heard of there being such a thing as a normal separation, I mean I always knew that it would separate but I guess I just didn't know that details of it lol

Most dont know about the things that might happen while seperation is going on. I didnt until I came here. That is why I made that thread to cover all the bases.

I think you are right on the money doing the yeast treatment first then if that dosnt help move on to bacatracin mentioned in the thread.

Most parents don't. I'd say about 90% of the "red/irritated penis" questions that we get are really just normal separation. The separation process is unique to each boy. Some experience itching or other discomfort while some boys don't experience any discomfort. For my son it was very uncomfortable and there was some swelling.

Retraction happens after two things have happened 1. The foreskin has separated from the glands and 2. The opening has widened (hormones play a huge role in the widening phase). These phases can occur at any point between infancy and puberty. They don't necessarily happen at the same time either. I like the analogy of retraction being like a rose bud blooming; you just let it happen on its very own. Here is a good pamphlet about retraction:
