It's on right now! I will be singing all night. My favorite part is when Maria and the Captain dance.

My dd is visiting, she is 8 and lives with her father out of state. This is something she would never see at home and she is loving it. I remember how much I loved this movie as a little girl and knew she would too.

have you read the books by Maria Von Trapp? I remember being a little girl and having them read to me many times

The great grand children of Maria Von Trapp have contiuned the singing tradition traveling around the
US giving concerts.

There is also the Von Trapp Lodge in Stowe Vermont. I would LOVE to take a vaction there some day.

EVERY time I watch that scene I swear I am going to find a class that teaches that dance. I LOVE that dance; it is SO beautiful.

I read The Story of the Von Trapp Family Singers by Maria Von Trapp. I was a little turned off by all the religious conservatism -- the anti-abortion and the anti-birth control and the bit about her daughter getting vain so she says something about her being ugly within her earshot, etc.

Could you be a bit more negative?
If you dont like religion dont read her books, she was a very devout Catholic.

All the kids seem to say the same thing...she was tougher than him....he was the softer one...but given her own childhood was so tragic...I'm not surprised.
evidently it is much more complicated story than the movie tells but alas..what's new? That's probably why it is so popular.

I was sad to hear one daughter died...i think in childbirth?...very sad..

I knew she was Catholic, but I *loved* the movie, and I didn't expect her to get all political in the book. And even a devout Catholic doesn't have to tell her daughter she's ugly.

When we were in Salzburg, Austria, it was all we could do to NOT go on the SoM tour or the dinner theatre.

Evidently, Austrians don't "get" the SoM phenom. The vast majority have never seen the movie or heard of it, we were told.

I love the movie. In Portland, Oregon, there was a sing-along showing of it - kind of like a Rocky Horror showing.

I've heard its all over the country that RH-esque showing. People dress up and have props. I met some people in NJ and TX who participate. Sounds like fun.

I The sound of Music. I remember going to see it at the theater when I was little. I hope Austin will enjoy it when he is older. For now he is enjoying mommy singing all the songs from it Even though mommy isn't that good!!

I know that the Vermont music camp burned down twice. Maria Von Trapp was decimated by the many tragedies in her life.

I saw her on a television talk show in the 1970's; she looked like my own German/Dutch Grandmama.

Imagine the life she had...she was a nun, then the stepmother to seven, then the wife of a sea captain, then she had to leave her homeland, then she had her own three children,....wow!

And then to see her life on stage ... awesome, even tho it did not pay off in terms of $ as it should have.

The children who were in the movie also have their own stories to tell. Angela Cartwright had her own business her in the SFV, and is now on the internet, hawking one-of-a-kind things as, well, a menorah featuring Santa Claus and his eight tiny reindeer.

I think Maria was an atheist before becoming Catholic.
