Why would an online school need vax records?

I'm looking into an online school for DS. Amongst the items needed for enrollment, it lists "immunization records." Why would they need that? Isn't the whole point of "compulsory" vaccination to protect kids who are exposed to illnesses via other kids in school? So why do they need it for an online school?

Of course, there was no mention on the website of exemptions, even though Ohio has all three kinds. :

well I know in Florida they have to ask to comply with all the rules for private schools, but you can also submit an expemption the same as with any other school.

That's crazy to me. I have no experience with either online schools or laws in the state of Ohio, but I was surprised to learn that my state of Virginia requires immunization records when registering a child for homeschooling. Virginia, though, does make it pretty easy to get an exemption and actually has links to the exemption form all over the Dept. of Ed website.

Because they are still considered a "public school" hence it being Free and they are covering their behinds.

Yep, it's because it is a public charter school. In order to get the funding they need they must comply with the requirements for public schools.

You are in Ohio though so the exemption is easy. I have an exemption form that I made that looks pretty official, even the county health department nurse (Sage received speech services through Help Me Grow) asked if they could use it as their form for parents filing exemptions. pm me if you want a copy

Just food for thought... I looked up the health laws in Maine, and I found this in the Maine State Vaccine Requirements:

"A student who is enrolled in a distance education program offered by a school and who does not physically attend any classes or programs at a school facility, including a campus, center or site of that school, or at a school facility, including a campus, center or site of any other school, is exempt from the provisions of this section."

Just thought it was interesting that it varied by state.

Because you can catch diseases from your computer, of course.

I just love it. Online school wants vax records. No wait, the vax will prevent your computer from getting sick. "One less!".

Maybe you should go and get some antibiotics for all these viruses you are catching. They work on viruses. Honestly.
