My 8 week old baby is losing weight - please help us

(x-posted in allergies) I feel sick to my stomach. DD is 9lb. She was 9lb. 6oz. last week. If I look at a month of weights she has only gained 10 oz. this past month. I have an inexpensive baby scale but its been pretty right on compared to the pedi's.

Here's whats happening: I have IGT and PCOS and had a low supply with DS, took herbs and supplements and this time had an oversupply (she was gasping and choking on my milk, green frothy poop, and it never finished) so we went to block feeding in 3 hour increments. It still seems to me like I have enough milk, she has plenty of wet and soiled diapers.

She has been sensitive to what I eat so I am off dairy (for a couple weeks but with a slip up this weekend), and just went off soy, gluten, peanuts. My chiro said we both have excess yeast so we are taking probiotics. She is still have very loose, sour smelling, green mucousy stool.

I'm going to call the pedi in about 10 min. when the office opens.

What could be causing this?

poor you!
has she been ill at all?
I'm afraid I don't have much to offer advice wise. Hope she's ok!

Oh Taryn, lots and lots of hugs! PM me if you need to. All of mine have been food intolerant, milk, soy, eggs, and wheat were the big ones so I've eliminated before. I just started dairy free for Olivia after being in denial and getting a kick in the pants from friends. I'm assuming the 9# and 9#6oz were on the same scale? My last 2 had problems w/ weight gain, no weight loss though, b/c of allergies. It just really hindered their growth, both grew much better off bm than on and that was sad for me (though Evan did a lot better when I did the total elimination diet, but it was hard and he was 11 mos old by then and I was ready to be done). I do hope it's not your supply. Have you done before and after feeding weights w/ her to see how much she's taking in? Watch out for the probiotics, most are cultured on dairy so check and make sure.

The pedi said she looks great besides the weight gain, 2 oz. in 12 days on his scale. So I'm going to collect a stool sample and we'll go from there. I did a quick before an after check today and she got 1 oz. in 10 min on one side. And his scale is in .5 increments so maybe a little more. When we got home I put her back on the same side and still had milk/multiple let downs so I think we're fine. She also heavily wets atleast 5 diapers a day. I am going to stop block feeding though and see what happens with that.

How long until the ED makes a difference?

It's just going to depend on the baby and if you're eliminating everything that is the problem etc. I was down to 5 foods on the total elimination diet and until I was about 3 days in and ran out of squash, we saw so no difference. Turns out he was intolerant to squash too, sigh. A lot of people will see a change fairly soon and things will get bad again if they're still eating a problem food or eating more of a food they don't normally eat.

Now I'm worried maybe it is my supply and I'm in denial

So... I've been pumping one side while nursing the other and then giving that to her in a bottle. I get 1 oz. - 1 1/2 oz. a time. I started alfalfa again too. This stinks.

Jennifer, How's it going with Olivia?

It's going well. We started at 3 wks not giving any supplements and just bfing and she gained 10ozs in that next week. I had weaned down from my supplements and stopped taking them last night, we'll see what happens. She was about 7#7oz at her lowest and was 9#3oz at 4 wks. Ilana was 9#13oz at 4 mos from the underfeeding. She's kind of cranky today and it always makes you question yourself, I hope it's nothing for you guys. I weighed Olivia after eating the other day and she only took in 2.5ozs and was satisfied so 1.5ozs isn't terrible, especially if she can get out more than that on her own.

We did have thrush and now have some pain issues that I'm not sure what it is so we have to see the bfing DR on Friday. We know she's tongue tied slightly, but I'm not sure if it's that or thrush again. I'm treating myself for thrush though just to make sure.

I think Olivia is doing better w/ me off the dairy, she slept great last night and I think her poor face looks better. Are you eating a good diet? It's hard when eliminating. I can try to help you there if you need food ideas etc.

I have IGT - How did you get a full or even close to full supply? I am 34wks pregnant and looking around for what I should buy - herbs vs domperidone, or both, I just posted about it in the "Please convince me thread"

Sorry I can't help on the diet thing my first son never got enough milk from me for it to be at all an issue. I hope things get better.
