Homeschoolers in Winnipeg?

Hi!

I'm Laura, mom to 6, living in Winnipeg and about to take the plunge into homeschooling 2 (maybe 3) of my kids in the fall.

I'm still learning alot, mostly about how and what my expectations are, but I'm also wondering about the irl support thats here in my city. (Even in my community, if possible )

So, are ya out there?!

I believe there is a homeschool families potluck that meets monthly (or weekly?) at Wolseley Family Place across from Misericordia Health Centre. What a brave and exciting decision mama! I hope I get to meet you at some point! We don't homeschool, but I do think it is pretty cool!

Hey Shenjall

I'm a winnipeg hser and there is a pretty big community, though it's fractured up by ages, religions and styles.

If you are a christian homeschooler you should get in touch with MACH and I can't help you much more then that.
Otherwise I would suggest first you join the winnipeg homeschooler yahoogroup. This seems to be the catchall place for homeschool info. Also you can joing MASH. There is also an organization called event horizon planning http://www.eventhorizonplanning.com/ whre they organize a ton of homeschool activities in the city.
And Phebe is right there is a potluck every month at WFP. Usually the 3rd saturday of the month.

I have joined the yahoo group and I have yet to join the MASH group, but will be doing so shortly. (we arent doing faith based hs)

I just suck at meeting people, lol. I always come off as "weird". So, please remember that if/when I meet you ladies.

I am a mother of 2 young children and we are also choosing the homeschool path.  My kids are 2 and 4, so we won't be doing any "official"  lessons just yet, but I am trying to find a homeschooling network to get involved with.  I am also very interested in Waldorf education, so we may follow the Waldorf curriculum. I know there are many families out there, but am having a hard time finding any.   I would love to attend meetings or even just have introductory playdates.  Any info would be great!

I have been to Winnipeg last summer and don't mind going there for several reasons.

Oh that's fantastic!  You know, starting a Waldorf initiative here has been on my mind non-stop lately so I was pleasantly surprised to see this post!  I would have to look into other families.  I was previously living in B.C. and it seems Waldorf is much more well known there.  I am trying to give some local moms in my neighborhood  the basic fundamentals, but it would be great to have someone with Waldorf experience supporting it here.  Would this meeting be in person or online?

Hi everyone. 

I am a stay at home mom here in Winnipeg. girl 5 boy 2 and baby due in June.

I dont do any formal stuff per say.

My daughter does some phonics, and my son learns his ABCs.

Also my daughter does some copywork.

But these things only happen when my daughter asks to do homeschool,

or when i find her in a good mood and encourage her to do a bit of school.

And i try to just teach my son whatever his attention span will tolerate.

When my kids gets older I will be doing the classical education with her.

I have signed up for events horizon, but alot of things to do is for older kids,

and is quite expensive. I plan to be more involved with it though when my kids are older.

I am also looking to connect with moms that have younger kids and would like to homeschool.

I live in the north end.

Hi.  Where about in the North End are you?  We live in Scotia Heights in the North End, so you might be close to us.  I would definitely like to connect with some other homeschooling moms in the neighbourhood.  Like I mentioned earlier my children are 2.5 and 4.5 so they are quite close in age to your kiddies!

Hello everybody

We are starting with a series of parent and child meetings next Tuesday May 28th at emerladzee' s place at 124 Luxton Ave Winnipeg!

The focus will be on a healthy education for the whole child to develop his personality and skills.

Tuesdays: 10 to 12 am  For parents with children 0 to 9 

Come and craft discuss and paint together. We will discuss and share to different themes what we experience with our children.

For example Food, daily rhythms, creative play, media, homeschooling....

There will be different topics for each week.

We are going to start with crafting of simple children toys, which empower the children's imagination.
