I posted about a friend who was having nipple pain and cracks -which along with other friends we believe is due to thrush. I have talked to her about gentian violet and GSE. Though someone else began telling her that GSE was not good for thrush because it shouldn't be used internally. Here is what was posted and I am wondering if anyone has heard of this or if this is misinfo.
TIA
I used to be a Grapefruit Seed Extract user, and bought into the myth of its
"natural" claim.
I would use it in my Veggie Wash and household cleaners, used it for the
throat gargles, etc -
until I really studied what GSE is. I still use it for my household cleaner
recipes.
But I cannot in good conscious advocate it for internal use, especially with
a baby!
First, GSE is NOT natural. It is not made from grapefruit essential oil,
nor is it solely made from crushed
grapefruit seed. As my dear friend Trina (a chemist) says, "Chemical
manufacturers take the leftover grapefruit pulp, a waste by-product from
grapefruit juice production, and in an intensive, multi-step industrial
chemical process, change the natural phenolic compounds into synthetic
quaternary ammonium compounds (Ebony's note: Benzethonium Chloride, which is
a Class 2 poison because of its teratogenicity - does this sound natural to
you?). Typically, in chemical synthesis of this type, chemical reagents and
catalysts are used under extreme high heat and pressure or vacuum (Ebony's
note: some of of the chemicals found in GSE are parabens and triclosan).
Synthetic ammonium chloride is one of the chemical catalysts used in this
process."
Besides the chemical composition of GSE, there's the problem that GSE poses
by 1) inhibiting the
absorption of various proteins, and 2) being an endocrine disruptor.
