swim diapers and plastic pants

I have some basic plastic pants that an acquaintance gave to me, and I'm wondering if they can be used in place of a swim diaper as a cover. DD and I are going on a trip at the end of April, when she will be 4 months old, and I'm thinking of trying her in the hotel pool. I'll be using disposable diapers on my trip. Can I put a pair of plastic pants over a disposable, or will they not be watertight enough? Just trying to find some use for these so-far useless plastic pants...

They might work by themselves, but don't take a regular disposable in water- they explode.

health rules generally require some form of swim dipe, vinyl cover, then swimsuit.

i 2nd not using a reg sposie.

Hehehehe they explode! I'm tempted to try this. I still have like 12 left from the 1st (and only) pack I bought for DD and we're heading to a warm vacation for a week...

I was just going to use small Bummi's covers on her as a swim dipe. aka poop catcher.

Hmm, well it sounds like I will have to buy a swim diaper anyway, so my quest to use the plastic pants is once again foiled... ;-)

I kind of think the plastic pants might work. The only purpose for a swim diaper is to hold in poop. If it can do that you're set.

Now individual facilities may have different specifications but the requirements that dachshoundqueen list are definitely more than anything I've ever seen.

I suppose I could always experiment with them to see if they hold in the poop. Wouldn't that be a fun experiment? :-)

It may be a GA health department rule because every pool I've been to they require the threesome, and some actually check your kids' hiney out before they can swim.

No, an absorbable diaper (sposie or cloth) wouldn't work because it would become soaked and weigh your baby down. I don't think just the rubber pants would work either because it would become all soupy in there rather than having something to stick to, although ime none of my babies have ever pooped while swimming.

We are in Colorado and I have never seen the plastic pants or swimsuit requirement for infants. We use either an empty pocket diaper or the cloth swim diapers from Target.
