How do I make FBs work as overnight diapers?

DS (3.5 yo) has been using the potty for well over a year but needs a diaper at night and he is a very heavy wetter. A while ago I gave up using cloth at night for him, but the cost of sposies makes me want to switch back.

I've tried double-stuffing the FuzziBunz with microterry and I've also tried combining a microterry with a chinese prefold and stuffing that inside instead. No cigar. I have to wake him up and change his diaper about three hours after he first falls asleep if I want even a sliver of hope of preventing his sheet from getting damp.

WWYD? I'm about to give up again and go back to Huggies Overnights.

Just what I was going to recommend.

I have such a heavy wetter than I even have to change sposies 2-3x/night though

If you stuff too much, though, you'll get gaps in the legs

We actually use 3 inserts - one mf and two hemp of visa versa. Or a combo insert with one extra insert in there... I like the hemp more than, say, a prefold, because you get good absorption with less bulk, so you keep a snug fit around the legs.

The snug fit around the legs as pp mentioned is really important. If you overstuff a diaper and it creates gaps around the legs, it will leak. Hemp can really help since it's trim and absorbent.

From my personal experience though, pockets aren't 100% reliable for us at nighttime. For us, the best combination is a prefold and fleece soaker. Try a different stuffing combination definitely, but sometimes things that work well during the day just don't work at night.

YES! I agree totally! Getting a pocket stuffed enough to absorb a ton will almost always create leg gaps where the pee will run right out onto the sheets.

I do two prefolds, or a fitted with two doublers, topped with a Dancing Bears night weight fleece soaker and we always wake up dry! Plus, no elastic in the fleece is very comfy for the kiddo.

I would stuff with a bamboo insert and microfiber one or a bamboo prefold. Bamboo was the only thing that absorbed enough for my ds.
