Kenosha CNM?

Hi - I posted this over on the IL board as well, but since I live literally 3 blocks from the Wisconsin border I'll give it a shot here too. Does anyone know and/or recommend a hospital based CNM in the Kenosha county area? Any info would be appreciated - thanks!

I live in Kenosha. I posted a similar question a while ago and got no responses. I'm actually planning to have this next lo at Evanston hospital with Debbie Lesnick and Gaye Koconis. There are no hospital CNMs here and the options for natural birth are not great. I had DS2 at Kenosha Medical Center (United hospital system). Postpartum was great, but I did not exactly have the natural birth I wanted. My ob (who has now thankfully retired) was supposedly the most natural birth friendly one there. I'd hate to see what the other docs are like.

I've been seeing an OB at Aurora, and he's really nice, but when I asked him about how he handles L&D, I was VERY disappointed - which is why I'm switching. I have since learned that that hospital is TERRIBLE for natural birth. (EVERYONE has constant monitoring and they only have 2 telemetry devices, very intervention happy, etc.)

So, I would advise staying away. I hope you can find someone good!

Hi boysmom2, thanks for responding. I'm not pregnant yet but we're TTC and when the time comes, it looks like I'll have to go the same route as you. My only beef is that my oldest son was born at Evanston (not with the mw) and I had a pretty bad experience with the nurses there so I don't have many fond memories of that hospital. *sigh* It's sad that our natural birth choices are so limited here.

I'm also looking into the birth center in Menomonee Falls and have heard great things about it. I just hope my insurance will cover at least some of it.

There aren't any CNMs in the Kenosha hospitals (Aurora or United/Kenosha). The closest one I found was in a Milwaukee suburb.

Stay far away from Kenosha if you want a natural birth, and/or to be treated like a human being. I have heard Aurora Lakeland is good but no personal experience there. Good luck.

I'm going through Aurora Lakeland and have been seeing Dr. Kate Harrod. She is a CNM and AWESOME!! Cannot say enough good things about her. Lakeland is very low tech so your chances of having a very natural birth there would be excellent!!!!

Just curious- a doctor who is also a CNM? And works for Aurora? That's pretty impressive.

Thank you for the rec. I looked her up and she's a CNM in Elkhorn - I'll definitely look into it more.
