Stroller- should I get a single for now or plan for the future and get a double?
Does anyone have the Baby trend double stroller? We can’t afford a Bob unless I find one used and that has not been easy.
Any other suggestions?
My DD is 9 months and we would like to have another baby within the next year or so. Thanks in advance for your advice!
I would like to use it for walking/jogging and some off road walking at State Parks. I am in no way a runner.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. I knew we'd be eventually having another babyand would require a double stroller eventually. So we got the Phil and Ted's sport stroller. It's a single that converts to a double. It's a three wheeled stroller and goes on trails very well. I love it more than anything in the world It IS pretty expensive, but well worth it for us since we'll be using it probably for the next four years. It will hold up to 80 pounds.

we have the kolcraft tandem options. my favorite stroller ever! you can take the seats off and rearrange as neccesary - one seat alone (facing in or out), or both facing out, or both facing in, or one facing in and one facing out. It's not an off-road stroller perse but works great on well-groomed trails, and the price is around $200. (We used last yeara's stimulus check for ours, as this was quite out of our price range.) you can also use an infant seat with it. it has 5 point safety harnesses and its well-made. i love it.

I've always had Graco Duogliders. They work well on smooth surfaces and pretty well on rough surfaces. It is a heavy stroller though, so I'm not sure I would buy one for only one child.

You could always get an inexpensive, used single through a resale shop or Craigslist to use until baby number 2 comes along. We got a nice (certainly not fancy, but in good condition and not ugly) stroller from a resale shop for $30. Now I don't feel bad going out and spending a bit on a nice double!

No Double

Our girls are 16 months apart. Our second DD and DS are 32 months apart. Baby 4 is due in October and will be 17 months younger than DS.

So far, we've only had a single stroller and I don't see us needing a double even with four kids under the age of five and a half. We travel and walk a lot, but with baby wearing and a child often insisting that they want to walk, we've been fine with a single stroller.

I agree about considering a Phil and Ted's where you could add the second seat if you find that you need it, or get a stroller that you can easily attach a wheelie board to down the road if need be.

Even the very best double strollers are not as light, compact and usable as a single. I find that a single stroller and a baby or toddler in a carrier to be much easier than trying to get around with a giant double stroller.

Double strollers are a total pain. I wouldn't get one for a hypothetical baby.

I have a single only as well. Eventually we will probably get a double for long day trips (like when we go to Disneyworld) but for every day a single is fine. The baby is in a carrier, the toddler is in the stroller.

I agree. And not to sound negative or anything, but you can plan a baby, but sometimes it takes a lot longer to happen then you plan it to take. A double stroller is not something I would get before you get pregnant, unless someone gives you one for free or something.

I'd get a single now and start stalking Craigslist, Ebay and join the strollerswap yahoo group to start the search for the reasonably priced double of your choice.

If my (hypothetical) second baby is anything like my first he or she won't tolerate the stroller until 5 or 6 months. Personally, I would push the older baby and wear the little one. Once the little baby is old enough to go in the stroller the older one will probably want to walk. JMO

Another vote for single. Mine are 3 yrs apart and I thought I needed a double, esp since my 1st was a total stroller potato, but I never found the "perfect" dbl and so far it's never been an issue. Those dbls are HEAVY! That's what's stopped me--I don't want to be pushing 100 lbs unless I have to, not to mention hoisting it in and out of my car. Not to mention that my trunk wouldn't be big enough anyway! And they're so cumbersome--I use my single a lot at places like the children's science museum or the mall where it's to my advantage not to be pushing something 4 ft long. Save your money IMO!
