"good" kids flip flops

Thread Starter
So my DD is obsessed with flip flops. I know they are not the best for her feet, but I also know that she will be wearing them all spring and summer. I am looking to get her "the best" flip flops if there is such a thing. Not cheapy plastic $5 ones, but something comfy for her feet since she'll be wearing them all the time. Can anyone help me out with this?

crocs flip flops are nice. though my kids live in their old navy flip flops. I don't really think of flip flops as bad for feet, I thought the issue with them was that you had to "hold on" to them with your toes to walk, which isn't an issue for kids flip flops generally since they have the back strap.

I will second the croc flops if you really NEED flip flops. They have elastic on the back, and stay on relatively well.... though occasionally will come out from DD's toes, get twisted, etc.
We prefer sandals or bare feet in the summer around here, honestly.

Flip flops really are bad for feet - they offer no support, no structure...i think any podiatrist & chiropractor would tell you that.

we live in flip flops almost year round-i love rainbows and reefs-both NOT with the canvas straps, but the leather or the faux leather.

My mom got my 4 year old dd some great flip flops from Target. They have an elasticy strap on the back but they still LOOK like flip flops and are easy to get on by herself ( the whole allure for her anyway, she hates the time socks and shoes take to get on). Oh, and they are pink and sparkily...a bonus for my dd. They are the Circo brand.

Clarks has a new kid's line w/ flip flops. Pricey, but they do have some support.

Definitely Reefs, they make some really nice flip flops. Like pp, we live in them and I looked everywhere to avoid that uncomfortable rubber!

Shoes.com had a really nice selection and free shipping to boot.

We have a pair of Reefs for DS that are nice.

Since humans are designed to walk barefoot, I've never bought the support/structure argument. Load of hoey IMO.

Barefoot is best for everyone.

: For those that mentioned Reefs, are they true to size? I remember buying DS a pair of Teva's a summer or two ago and I was told that they run small.

i live year round in flip flops for the last 4 years.

idk if its related or not by I was having some sore feet problems for about a month or two a couple months ago. it resolved itself though.

I'm totally a barefoot babe and never, ever have issues with my feet. I LOVE being barefoot.

If I cannot be barefoot, I feel that flip flops are the next best thing...

Buy the ones with elastic on the back. If you are concerned about the quality, you should ask a professional about it. They know which are really good.

They are hard for little kids to run in (and for adults, too, for that matter), but my kids love them. I've just gotten some at Target. I avoid the rubber strap. I have some Tevas for myself that I like (with the skinny canvas strap, not the wide one). I'm too cheap to spend that kind of money on my kids, though, since they just wear 'em out and grow out of them and tear 'em up.

Since I tend to choose the "natural" option for everything else I wish I could agree with you. But, flip flops are not the same as going barefoot - the floppy shoe actually forces your foot into unnatural positions. Plus, I don't think our feet were designed to walk barefoot on concrete, pavement, and other artificial surfaces.

And based on personal experience, I cannot go barefoot or in poorly structured shoes, as I get excruciating foot, knee, leg pain. I wish I could. That doesn't mean I don't ever wear flip-flops, but it means I pay for it later.

Actually I'm not a big flip flop fan myself.... I think barefoot is better.

And protection for the feet and cushioning is a far cry from "structured" shoes. The ideal shoes would keep the feet safe (and cushioned enough on concrete etc) and still allow as much movement as possible and a barefoot like feeling as much as possible.

Have you seen these babies? Not for kids (I don't think) and they run about $80, but there you go—as close to barefoot as you can get!

I love Sanuk flip flops, not sure if they make them for kiddos though. They are really comfy, and I live in flip-flops. I haven't noticed any feet issues, but I am a sandal wearing river girl. My DD is now also obsessed with flips too, I have to get her some.

I have. I'm intrigued by them. Though things between all my toes like that squick me out.
