Extra vials, retired donor, don't know what to do with it...

The other thread on storing vials reminded me about my little dilemma.

We have 4 vials of sperm from our retired anonymous donor at our old AI clinic, our storage is up, and we would have to pay $250 to keep it another year. We have 3 healthy beautiful boys, almost 5, 3.5, and 1.5, and are definitely not feeling the urge to have another baby right now.

Also, though our 3 children are from this donor, we have the feeling that if we did have more children, we would want to use another donor. Not that we weren't satisfied with him, our 3 boys are healthy and amazing, but when we planned on having children we were hoping for darker children. I have always seen myself parenting a rainbow of kids. Our donor is bi-racial, as I am, but both myself and my partner(who is white) birthed 2 very fair children from this sperm(Our oldest "passes" for white, the middle is darker, obviously not white, and the babe has blond curly hair and blue eyes, def. "passes" as white). But there is the draw of knowing that we have this sperm which from which we got our children and would never be able to get again if we got rid of it and changed our minds.

Lastly, our sperm is currently living in Boston, our old home, but now are in oregon, and aren't sure of what are options are to move it closer, or what. I want to try and sell it, but it's been away from CCB(where we bought it from) for over 4 years. Has anybody else been in this situation? What did you do?

Maybe another family who has already used this donor might be wanting some vials?

Last ditch, to avoid paying for continued storage, some people have given away unwanted vials in the past. Technically, you can't do that via a post on MDC, but you could hint and people could PM you from there. There are folks from Boston, Western Mass, and driving distance to Boston who might be interested.

you could also post on the ccb bulletin board that you have vials from that particular donor and see if anyone is interested. folks on there are asking for retired donors all the time! and there has been a recent spate of vials for sale, not sure if the state of the economy is forcing folks to sell or not.

if you still have a thought that you might ever want another baby from this donor again though, hold on to them!

You could also use the donor sibling registry. People are looking for and advertising extra vials on there all the time. Good luck.

this is what i was going to say. we only have 5 vials left of DS's donor and there are no more available through the sperm bank. We are hoping to get pregnant with one of the vials but if not we'll be looking on the DSR to see if anyone is selling any of our donor.
