Crafts for a 1 year old?

Thread Starter
I am a new Mom, and I have no idea what is safe for my little 11 month old son to do. Our nanny gave him some crayons and I was surprised to find out that he colored with them! What other things can we be letting him do that might enrich his enjoyment of art and self expression?

For instance, what age can they play with play dough? Are there any recipes that are better for potential taste testing? Are finger paints okay? Are there other fun activities for a one year old that you might recommend? Thanks for any tips!!!

ohh we just made some "no cook play dough" in a parents as teacher home visit. Ds 2yrs loves it. It is
1 cup flour (any kind you can use organic to make it better)
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup water
and food coloring
then you just knead together like dough.

finger paints are fun for that age and if you think the child will eat it use pudding! also spray whip cream on the table for the child to mess with its fun!
