Natural Hair Color??

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I am in need of a good natural hair color...I know it's vain, but I really don't like my gray hair. I'm too young to have as much as I do and since I'm a brunette, it really shows up. I have been using an herbal based hair color from Whole Foods, but I just discovered a scary ingredient on the label and now it's back to square one. I tried the henna once, but it was such a messy process that I never did it again. Is there anything at all that I can try that's not toxic? Thanks so much!!

I don't know much about natural hair coloring, but I did just read that scientists just discovered how to reverse gray hair, and it is expected that hair care companies will start making shampoo that brings back your natural hair color by repairing the hair follicle!! Won't that be great. Of course, who knows what health effects it will have. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a "healthy" solution.

: Am in the exact same position as you and cant' wait to see any suggestions. My next step is just going to Aveda to have them put some light colored highlights in my hair - last time I did that it was nice b/c it took waaaaay longer before you could notice the gray again. But I would prefer something natural. I did see somebody on here recommend black walnut? But I have not seen it at the HFS and don't really know what it is exactly.....

Henna and the associated plants (cassia, indigo) are pretty much it when it come to 100% plant based products.

There ARE a few ways to keep Henna from being overwhelmingly messy - I do way better when I buy a squeezy bottle to apply it with (from a buty supply store, etc.), and when I wash it out in my kitchen sink with the sprayer rather than trying to clean the bathroom and the tub up when I shower it out. And worst-case scenario, some Aveda salons will color your hair with Henna, or if you've got a hairstylist you like you can ask them to do it in a salon, if you supply the dye and instructions.
