Beco Question

I have a silly question about my Beco.

I see in the instructional video that the infant insert comes off for when your baby is bigger and no longer needs it. I don't remember getting an infant insert when I got my Beco in January '08, but it's totally possible/probable.

Unlike the Ergo, the Beco has this extra little pouch inside it, presumably to make the baby more secure. Just to make sure I understand, that's NOT the infant insert, right? Because mine is attached.

My question is whether or not those of you with bigger babies/toddlers have any trouble getting your littles into that extra pouch. Is it supposed to be used no matter the size of the child?

?

Which Beco do you have? My understanding is the the Butterfly I has the infant insert built in and the Butterfly II has one that is removable.

Ah! That makes sense. It must be the Butterfly, then. I assume this means I should stop trying to squeeze my 14mo into that extra pouch! :

ETA: This page leads me to believe there is a thing called an "inside panel" on all Becos--is that what this extra pouch is? Am I supposed to be sitting my baby in that, too? And is the infant insert separate from the inside panel? Geez, you'd think I'd know this stuff already.

Does yours have two different internal seats? One is a smaller Y that sits up a bit higher and is intended for infants, the bigger one that touches your back is for older babies/toddlers. You are supposed to use one of them, per Beco's instruction, but yes it can be a pain to get them to step into the internal panel, IMO.

I don't know about a separate infant insert (like ergo has) but then I have a Beco Butterfly I. I can see needing one with the 4th gen. Beco's, though.

The "internal panel"/harness thing is the thing that is attached to the shoulder straps basically... (and then you attach the main body of the carrier to that with two buckles). It sits right against your body when you wear the Beco. So between you and your child.
Both the internal panel and the main body of the carrier are attached to the waist belt.

The infant seat on the Butterfly II is detachable, but not on the Butterfly I (which I think you have?)

I only have a Butterfly II but I imagine the infant seat on the I is attached to the body of the carrier, as opposed to being attached to the waistbelt.

I'm sooo bad at explaining things clearly Drummer's wife already explained well, anyway.

If you received your Beco Butterfly in January, you have the classic version which is with a fixed infant insert. The Butterfly II version is the one with the removable insert.

For older babies, you should collapse that extra pouch so it sits flat against the body of the carrier.

Once my ds was walking, I'd pull the carrier on him like a pair of pants and toss him onto my back as if we're going on a piggy back ride. Hope that makes sense.
