Check out the picture on this page of the CDC's website:

Can you say fabricated? lol How much do you want a bet that nurse isn't really sticking that smiling baby with a needle?

hehe...no it certainly doesn't make them weird, although my daughter screamed bloody murder for her shots.

I just think the picture looks really fake.

Yeah, it does look posed, not real. But the nurse's smile comes across as sort of wacky to me. Weird picture.

Goes well with all the other crazy info the CDC hands out.

I should have filmed the 2 times my son was given shots. The nurse held the needle up high like a dagger and just stabbed it in. I couldn;t believe how horrible it was. I even instructed her to do it more gently the next time around and she told me that was how she was trained, blah blah blah. I told her she needed to get right with the Lord and be saved. THEN I started researching vaccines. I know better now.

We had one of those too : she ended up scratching DD#1's leg giving the shot. The vaccination didn't have any side effects.. but she had a 1 inch scratch on her leg.:

I think they are trained that way. Most seem to do that, though maybe not as sloopy as the one we had. I think the idea behind it is fast and painless obviously not for most kids.

we got the flu shots this year (had to because DD#2 has a congenital defect that makes her more volnerable to the nasty effects of the flu) I didn't because I was pregnant at the time, this was back in December. My 3 year old looks at the nurse and says "Hey!! that pinches!!" LOL then she left DD#1 looks at me and says "Quick mommy!! Lets get out of hear before she pinches me again." : out of the mouths of babes!

Vaccines are held to the highest standard of safety. The United States currently has the safest, most effective vaccine supply in history. Years of testing are required by law before a vaccine can be licensed. Once in use, vaccines are continually monitored for safety and efficacy.
From the same link.

I should read this stuff more often. This is about the most UNreassuring thing that could be said to me.
1."That vaccines are the safest they have ever been in history" - I read that there were not safe, they are safer now and in the process of being made even safer
2. While the vaccines are being used they are still being monitored for safety in case something was missed.

This does not reassure me AT ALL. It makes me more suspicious. The first sentence is just crock. And of course they don't mention the years of testing on 100% healthy children comparing one vaccine against another and then selling the vaccine to unhealthy children

I don't think it's fabricated... it's simply right BEFORE the needle goes in and then the little boy's flirty eyes and smile will turn into a look of sheer pain, dismay and betrayal, at least that's what I remember from when I allowed my first son to be vaccinated. Poor little guy didn't know what was coming... : (

Yeah, if you know the history, that's really not saying a lot.

That nurse looks waaaaay too happy while giving that baby the shot.

The mother is also not holding the baby properly.

Maybe the norm is to cry. The photo is definitely geared to send a message and manipulative.

HOWEVER, my daughter had blood drawn twice and all she did was look at the needle and didn't bat an eye. THe phlebotomist had closed the door expecting crying and was amazed that she didn't do anything. When she got a shot two weeks ago, she also didn't make a sound or do anything.

Just saying I don't think all kids react to needles the same way.

But the photo is definitely STAGGED to impart a particular message... that vaccines are great, you baby will love them and it's all a happy thing.

I'm kind of shocked that there aren't birds and butterflies fluttering around with Bambi standing there sweetly licking the needle.

Here is the funny thing... part of my work is managing a website, putting up photos to 'sell our site' and products. Of course I try to find fun, happy photos of people... I mean why would I sell my product with a photo of an unhappy, depressed person? So, I was thinking... if I were the CDC and wanted to show a child getting vaccinated... yeah, you are sort of left with no choice but the bambi shot.

But, isn't it interesting that when newspapers post stories about vaccination and kids getting them, the baby seems to always look like it's crying, miserable and hates the world? But the article says, "This is a great thing to do cause X disease is on the rise?"

Weird.

Weird.

Maybe newspapers tend to have more ethics than the people who run the CDC's website. I don't know...I'm probably a little biased b/c my DH publishes 2 newspapers.

No, newspapers thrive on death, doom and disaster so they don't at all mind pictures of pain and suffering. Look at the headlines!

Actually there are quite a few restraints in the USA not seen in other countries when it comes to newspapers. I am always amazed at the bloody, dead bodies on the front pages of central american papers....

Hehe...yeah, maybe. Not my husband's papers though (they're just little local papers.) He's even run some pro-informed choice articles on vaccines!
