I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I'm going to ask anyway. Think it could work that fast?
And what would you think is the "responsible" factor there?

Going to sleep now.
Woo-hoo!

I'd guess not the vitamin A. I don't know enough about tyrosine to weigh in, but B12 definitely works fast, and I think Shannon has had fast results on other things with folate.

re: B12, some people do have issues starting it--Pat, have you considered a hydroxy-B12? My Perque ones taste yummy, though I keep meaning to look into mamafish's link to a liquid version, cheaper is always good.

See? That shows what I know!

But it seems pretty rare, and it's usually people with lots of health stuff going on. I wasn't anywhere near that point, I wouldn't guess Pat to be either--maybe I'm wrong, but my long-distance guess. That's why I suggested the hydroxy kind, some folks have a problem with the methyl B12s, again most are fine, but I think it's the methyl donor part that's an issue.

Ok, so now that I have the vitamins, I'm debating how much and how often to take them.
I'm thinking I'll be taking the B12 and folate morning and night with all my other supps. I'm considering cutting some of the tablet-form B-vites (including the biotin) in half and taking it morning and night like that. eta: Biotin kind of scares me a little. it's one of those things that can mobilize things if you up it too quickly, right?
Right now I'm taking the vitamin A morning and night, but I'm considering just morning or just night. If I were to do that, any ideas which time would be better?
I'm thinking I will take the tyrosine just once per day, but I'm going to go check out my friend Moss' (bipolar) protocol first before I make that decision.

Yup - DS reacts very strongly to methyl donors, he can only handle 500mcg of methyl B12, but he's on 3000mcg of the hydroxy with no problems. Hydroxy is supposed to be the "universal" B12 that everyone can tolerate - and then depending on your genetics, adenosyl or methyl forms could be useful as well.

Vitamin A stores, so even taking it every few days works, I think?

mamafish, could you link that one more time? The place with the liquid B12s.

JR--B12 can cause sleeplessness, I haven't noticed it in myself, but I derailed a few naptimes for the kids by giving it too close. Maybe it's more a kid thing than adult thing, I don't know.

I'd start other things before the biotin. It increased my vitC need, best I recall, and I know it did for the kids. The description I read was that it can starve out candida (fuzzy on the mechanism) and the dying candida release junk (both metals and I think just byproducts of dying) and that can re-circulate. I slowly tapered up the kids and I think added some extra mag and vit C and didn't see anything behaviorally with them, and I didn't feel bad myself.

re: A, I'd throw it in when it's convenient. I give it to the kids after dinner because that's when I remember, and me in the AM because I take most of my pills then and am least likely to forget those. In theory, fat soluble vitamins after a somewhat fatty breakfast would maximize absorption but I'm not sure it really matters to us (me and the kids, I mean).

hmm.
i get 200mcg biotin atm but my new biotin only supp will quadruple that. I'm pretty sure it's a tablet though so i could use my pill cutter

eta: what do you know about adenosyl b12, Deb?
You're going from 200mcg to 1000 mcg? You may not have any issues there. I started the kids at 1000mcg and over the course of a week or so went up to 8mg.

Thx, Deb. Do you know what trehalose is? I saw it's a stand-alone product but I've never even heard of it.

200 to 800mcg. I'm really cautious about stuff that might release anything, especially while I'm nursing 2 little guys. They've already been exposed to enough, having been conceived and manufactured in the toxic waste dump that is me.

But they get you as a parent. You, who knows them better than anyone, who can listen to them and understand them better than anyone. Their gift is you.

And I looked up my multi, when I started it I went from probably nothing to 1500mcg, didn't notice anything with DS. Not a guarantee, of course, but my HCP wasn't worried about it, she rec'd the multi--and I hadn't gotten the kids started, or maybe just barely, on their supps.

Nada, LOL - it's not a fit for DS' issues, I don't think. Yasko, for people with certain mutations who need a lot of B12, is a big fan of "all forms, all routes" - so she has hydroxy, adenosyl, methyl, and cyano forms, and sublingual, oral, spray/liquid, and injectable routes that she recommends for people.

It's a sugar. You can apparently use it for baking as a sugar sub, but Yasko likes it because it helps with excess glutamates (and is antimicrobial and antioxidant, if I remember correctly). She uses it as filler in a lot of her supps, and/or a sweetener.

update:
since I started taking the vitamin A and tyrosine, my thirst (which started when I started the potassium) has normalized. also, my eyes are no longer sandy/dry feeling.
the awesome boost i had that first day hasn't returned but i'm noticeably less tired than previously so maybe it's just becoming my new normal? though i don't seem to have huge amounts of energy or anything.
will post again when i switch from my b-complex to individual Bs

Not certain, but my cousin who collapsed with a double aneurysm a few months ago may have been diagnosed with von Hippel-Lindau disease. Will confirm if I get confirmation...
This would explain many many MANY things for my family.
