First-Time Mom to Twins

I have twins due in September and I want to use cloth diapers. Disposables are out of the question, but I am becoming more and more concerned about the number of diapers I'll be using and whether I have a strong enough gag reflex. Any advice on what type to use? Also, has anyone else used cloth on twins?

My twins wore cloth. I mean, we had the occasional stint where I got tired of laundry, so we'd use paper diapers for a few days to give poor Mama a break, but mostly they've worn cloth. It really is no big deal. In the early days, when they're not eating solids, you don't need to do anything at all with poopy diapers other than toss them in the pail, and that's just as easy as sposies. And you don't have to SEE anything when you wash. Use a wet bag to line your diaper pail, and then just empty the bag into the washer. A nice pair of latex dish gloves can even keep you from touching anything nasty. Just get into a nice routine of throwing the diapers in the washer every night, tossing them in the dryer first thing in the morning, and there you go.

It really is no big deal! And by the time they're on solids and the poo needs more attention, you'll be a pro!

And think of those mountains of filthy disposable diapers clogging the landfills.

Not A Big Deal

I agree that it's not a big deal. We don't have twins, but we've had two in diapers twice so far.

With two, you'll see the financial benefits of cloth more quickly. We've also found it convenient not having to worry about running out of diapers and planning trips out to the store to get more. I've also found that cloth contains messy poops a lot better than any of the disposables we've tried while traveling. And if a change pad or a pair of sleepers gets messy during a diaper change it's easy to toss it in with the diaper load.

Diaper wash also doesn't need to be difficult. It's not like other laundry that needs to be sorted and folded. And like Llyra, you don't need to actually touch dirty diapers. You can just dump them in the washer.

And if you do experience particular issues, you can get lots of good advice here!

Having babies kills any gag reflex you may have had.

Thanks a lot! I didn't realize you could just wash the early ones. I was imagining scraping them into the toilet. (vomit!) The idea was digusting, but not as much as the waste that come from disposables. My cousin had baby last year and I remember walking into her nursery when the baby was about 3 months. She had just filled a 13 gallon bag with dirty, disposable diapers and was starting on a new one. It's just unacceptable to me. There's probably a landfill somewhere (probably under a mid-income housing development) filled with my own dirty diapers.

I did not have twins, but did have two in prefolds & fitteds.

No problems! I think there is a no gag reflex hormone that happens when you conceive.
You'll do great!
Congrats!

We used cloth for our twins and it was no big deal. My older DD was still in diapers when they were born, so I had a lot of diapers to wash!

Just make sure you have plenty of diapers to get you buy, depending on how often you want to wash.

And Congratulations!
