Part Time Cloth- Convenience is #1

We are going to try to do cloth part time. I will be working and LO will be with Grandma 3 days a week. I think it would be worth it to cloth when I am home 4 days a week.
So I was thinking my part time stash would have something like:
24 Prefolds
6 Covers
12 BumGenuis One Size (I heard the velcro doesn't hold well on these, but I thought they would be good for part time?)

What do you think?

Or should I just get one of those trial packages that some of the online diaper suppliers sell and have a variety?

Is grandma on board with cloth? Have you asked? She may not find it hard to do either, totally saves money and definitely keeps the toxins away from the baby.

When I had my dd 19+ years ago I had to work 4 nights a week. My in home baby sitter was an older women in her early 70's. She totally dug using my prefolds and pull up and my breast milk out of the freezer. It saved so much I pretty much paid for her in home care the two days she was here.

Your set up is enough to diaper full time.

I think your stash looks great, though if Grandma would be willing to give cloth diapers a shot, I might get more BG 3.0s (or, my preference, fuzzi bunz because I like snaps better than aplix) for her to use and a few less prefolds. Pocket diapers are VERY user-friendly, in my opinion!

I agree - you have enough dipes there for full time! And totally ask about cloth with GM - she might be into it.

For pocket dipes, I love TinyTush - they come with velcro or snaps. Have held up well for me and stayed soft on the inside...

That's so great that your LO can be with family when you're not there. What a gift!

That's definitely enough diapers for full time! I do really like the Bum Genius diapers. We've never really had a problem with the velcro, but I know some people do. Tiny Tush are also nice, as pp mentioned. I find the fit similar to BG.

Most diapers with velcro are as easy to use as disposables, so you may find your grandmother is fine with the BG.

We cloth diaper part time also. Our daycare doesn't do cloth and I'm not terribly interested in converting them at this point as our goal is to have me stay home soon.

Your stash looks pretty similar to mine, minus some of the BG (I only have 4 as I only use them for night), plus a few AIO's for the diaper bag. I've been running w/this stash for about 8 months now and it has been more than adequate. The thing I've noticed about PT diapering is that it can be harder to work up a full load of diapers so you tend to do smaller, more frequent loads because you don't want to let dirty diapers sit for too long. You don't need a lot of diapers to get you from wash to wash in that case.

Thank you for your replies! I think I am finally getting everything ready for Lo's arrival! Deciding what cloth diapers to get has been one of the trickiest! (followed closely by baby carriers!!)

My mom (Grandma) used cloth diapers (prefolds and "plastic pants") with my brother and I, so she is on board.. with that being the case, should I just invest in more BG (or Tiny Tush, or Fuzzi Bunz?) rather then more prefolds? I still think there are going to be time where it is easier to use sposies (like if LO goes to his other Grandmas house or with someone else or even sometimes when DH is home alone with him ) so maybe I don't need too many more?

Lke Chryseis said, one thing I am worried about is the smaller laundry loads..

I would get some more pockets or AIOs... they are SO easy!! Even my DH and our friends who have never even SEEN a cloth diaper (DH thought "nobody did that anymore" when we got together) have been able to CD our son with no problems at all!!

AIOs and already stuffed pocket diapers are exactly like sposies for ease of use and it's not like the other people'll be doing laundry so I don't think it really matters who's watching your baby.

You would think this was true....but some people really have a mental block about it. When my baby was small, i was using mostly ME Sandys and AIOs, with a few prefolds thrown into the stash...i made sure when he was left with my sisters, he had on a really simple diaper, just like a disposable, right? All they had to do was take it off, and throw it into the little grocery bag....but they were still resistant ("ok,what do i do?!" "Oh, he doesnt have one of *those* diapers on does he??") so i just put him in a disposable when he was with them.

Some people get really freaked out by the idea of cloth diapers....which is really strange, i know!

Excuse my ignorance, but are the BG One Size, Fuzzi Bunz and Tiny Tush all examples of an AIO?

I'll add my vote to using AIOs. They are just like sposies to use. Blue Penguin makes SposoEasy's. I love mine... that's how I got DH on board with CD... :

here is a link so you can see them: http://www.bluepenguin.biz/aio.html and http://www.bluepenguin.biz/images_pr...olors_orig.jpg

They even figured out the velcro/applix laundering problem, sticking. Genius

I don't understand the difference between sposies and aio's? There isn't any. One gets put in a bag to wash and the other in the trash???

One is no easier than the other.

Get yourself some AIO's. I love Lucy's hope chest. Great WAHM dipe!

My post may have got lost in the shuffle up above, but what are some diapers that are considered AIO's? Are the BG, FuzziBunz and Tiny Tush?

Usually AIO (all-in-one's) have a section of their own at online diaper retailers. The differ in that they are all one piece, there is no separate insert to put in (like with pockets)or waterproof cover needed (like with fitteds or prefolds).

For example, pockets: http://www.abbyslane.com/catalog.php?category=52
all-in-one's: http://www.abbyslane.com/catalog.php?category=115

The BG 3.0s are actually pockets, whereas the new BG organic one size with snaps are actually AIOs

I am sorry, but I think I am getting more confused the more I research.

I was looking at covers and came across this set on Babies R Us.com (where I am registered) http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=3368252
That set is just the covers, right? To go with my prefolds?
If I stick to my 24 prefolds (per size) and my 6 covers, how many Snappis would I need?

Also, the Bum Genius 3.0 One-Size (or FuzziBunz or Tiny Tush One-Size) are actually pocket diapers, so I would need to get inserts too, correct?
Or I could get the Bum Genius Organic One-Size and they are actually AIO's, so I wouldn't need inserts?

Lastly, I am not understanding this set that Costco.com has http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...913&lang=en-US
It says that it is an AIO, but comes with 6 inserts. Aren't AIO's = All-In-Ones, no insert? Or are they just including those for extra absorbancy or nights?

Sorry for all the questions!

Yes, looks like these are just covers. Not sure re: snappis, it may depend on how often you lose things or if you'd like a separate one for the diaper bag, etc. I would think at least 2 or 3.

Exactly, though depending on where you get the BG pockets they may come with inserts already. Keep in mind that since the AIOs are all one piece they can take longer to dry because there are more layers all attached together. Also some kiddos are super-soakers so they need an extra insert for absorbency.

Yes, it looks like the inserts are for extra absorbency. You could use these inserts with prefolds too (or any other type of diaper) if your little one needs the extra absorbency.

I wanted to add that in reading reviews it seems like Bumkins products aren't that highly rated compared to some other diapers. There was probably threads about that here or on DiaperSwappers, you could probably do a search.

Some AIO diapers have a pocket for adding extra absorbency, but you can also use it as-is.

BG, Fuzzi Bunz and usually Tiny Tush come with inserts already, so you probably don't have to worry about that.

I agree that 2-3 Snappis are plenty.

Is there a store near you that sells cloth diapers? You might be able to set up a registry there. That way you can register for a greater selection than just what's available at Toys R Us.
