DD won't SIT down in the mei tai

She stands up! It's totally precarious and I don't leave her back there because I really think she's going to take a header. She's a few day short of 3 months, and her little legs just don't fit comfortably out of the mei tai or wrapped around me when she's on my back. I attempt to put her in in a froggy position, but she just stands up. Stiff as a board, she is! I can't figure out how to tie her on securely in a standing position, especially because she does eventually sit down when she wants to go to sleep. If I could tie the straps around her upper body, I think she'd be secure enough, but I can't contort myself enough to get it tied around her back when she's on my back. Does this description make any sense to you?
Anyway, eventually, I'll be able to have her legs wrapped around me, but until then, any ideas?

Have you tried wearing her in the front in it? At 3 months my kids did better on my front, tummy to tummy, that way I could see them too, which made me feel better - after she gets used to the way she's supposed to be in the carrier, you can try putting her on your back again.

sounds like she's ready to have her legs out. try cinching the bottom of your MT with a hair scrunchy or a bandana to make it narrower between the legs, hen she should have no problem getting her legs out. once her legs are out, just make sure her knees are higher up than her bum so she sinks down nicely into the body of the carrier.

Exactly this!

Once they start straightening their legs that means it's time to get 'em out. You can also do one leg in and one out, but the above suggestion should work really well.

Ok, will give this a try. It just feels so wrong to put her legs out though - maybe I'm doing something wrong? I'm not *that* big around, but her legs are forced if I try to wrap them around me. Would using the tie on the mei tai make it so that her knees are pushed into my back? Bah. I guess I'll just have to give it a try when she wakes up. Thanks for the idea!

We are in kind of the same situation, thanks for asking!!

it will get better when she grows a bit. I remember my guy seemed a little stretched at 3 months, but now at 5 months, he's perfectly fine. I do want to give a plug also to trying a pod. For instance, I have a Kinderpod, which is a pod with wide angled straps. It's the fastest and easiest way to get the kiddo on my back (compared to with an MT or a wrap) and it's nice because I can carry him nice and high up so if I look back he can see me. I'm sure you could score one (or a similar one, key point being angled wide straps) on TBW FSOT forum. With a pod, the legs can be out but not spread quite so wide. I basically put him on my back in a ruck with lexi twist and tibetan straps. If you're superkeen on back carries and your little one likes to be high, I think this is an awesome carry. I can send you a pic of what it looks like, if you want. And it's fast because you don't have to mess with two sets of straps. I love my MT for front carries, of course.
