HI/LO Homebirth (We all have one!) - Page 2

Best: For my first HB, best part was a knowledgeable care provider who treated DS's shoulder dystocia as if it were an every-day normal occurance. For my second HB, it was not having to get in the car to go anywhere, in labor.

Worst: For my first it was probably thinking I could be superwoman after, and take care of the house and kids the same day I'd given birth, without giving my body the enforced rest my hospital births had given me. For my second, it was that it had been an unplanned UC (on my part at least... DH was apparently very much planning a UC for us). I still feel if I'd been planning a bit more for a UC, mentally, I would not have been so shell-shocked for the next several days, unable to really process the birth and how incredibly fast it went.

Fun thread!

Good replies, ladies!

BEST - Having healthy babes and not having to drive anywhere for anything. Not being cut open. Giving birth on the birth stool, just like I imagined. How amazing "Baby A" looked. DH trying out different music, and realizing all I wanted to listening to was Van Morisson. The Irish Cowboy is my babies' guardian angel! My Mom and doula being so fantastic. (Can't believe I thought my mom would be all mushy, she was almost better than my MWs!) A blessed back-up midwife, who I had never met or spoken to, driving hours to help me and somehow doing everything I needed just the way I would have wanted it. And then no PPD!

WORST - Home castor oil induction. Not sooo gross, but a bad idea. Getting dehydrated from so much vomiting and needing an IV that my first MW didn't have. Realizing if not for her back-up I would have needed to transfer. I hadn't asked about the IV, being arrogant and thinking I wouldn't need it. One more bad judgment on my part. Thankfully it all ended well. MW assistants under foot and in the way. Only nursing my first daughter for a minute, so that I could focus on birthing her twin. I would have liked to savor that moment, but I wanted to make sure "Baby B" was safe.

Amazing experience!!! Before the birth, I had my mom's sceptical support, and my DH too, but going through it made them both even more hard-core advocates than I am. My mom tells everyone they should have a home birth!

Best- I can't think of a one best thing, it just went so well. I think the few moments afterward when I realized I had done it were truly amazing. I had long imagined that my previous somewhat interventive labors were responsible for my breastfeeding problems- it is truly liberating to be able to say that I did absolutely everything I could to avoid that this time.

Worst- Really nothing. There were a few little things like the bathroom was too hot or I wish I had kept a shirt on for the pictures (or maybe any amount of clothes on at any point ), but nothing bad enough that I would want to change it. My husband says cleaning up the tub was the worst part but since I didn't have to do it, it doesn't count.

I'll start with 'the worst' which was that he was in a difficult position, which made for a really long pushing phase, and some pretty bad tearing.

Other than that, everything else was 'the best'
