Xavier Charles was born at 5:04 pm today March 20 in an incredible home water birth! I got to catch! :
7lb 8 oz, 20 inches long, beautiful!
Big adjustments for our big boy~ *yawn*
long day.
Thinking of you all...

I'm working on the birth story: the day after the birth, the power cord on my laptop died, and the next day I got a terrible cold. We haven't been sleeping, but I'm grateful to be able to get back online (and pay my cc bill before it was late) Xav is beautiful, if a little yellow . . .
Speaking of which, any home treatments you might know for jaundice beyond sun in the window? At 1 week, we are thinking of calling him Bart~ well, not quite that bad, but I am a little worried. He sleeps a lot, and isn't very demanding right now, but maybe that is his personality more than being lethargic . . . the doctor wants to recheck how he looks in about another week, but was wondering if there was anyting I could do meanwhile . . .

TIA jenn

Keep in mind that most windows installed in the last 20 years block the UV light that helps process bilirubin. Better to get direct light...or even be outside on an overcast day.

DDC crashing.

Direct sunlight is best, plus feeding him as often as he'll take it. Don't let him go more than 2 hours without breastfeeding. Breastfed babies often take a little longer to filter out the jaundice, but don't let the dr talk you into supplementing unless his bilirubin levels get dangerously high (look it up, but I think that 16 is the action level??)

Some nice walks in the fresh outside air will be good for both of you (assuming it's warm enough to have him exposed outside).

Congratulations!
