Yeast on baby's foreskin

I knew it was coming. Lucius has yeast on the tip of his foreskin. Considering the 10 day course of 2 antibiotics he took, plus the 5 day course of azithromycin I took for my sinus infection, I'm not surprised. I'm applying monistat at every diaper change but what else can/should I do for him? I don't see any in his mouth or on my nipples or anything.

You can give him a good probiotic to take daily. It's a must after abx for everyone.

Bummer.

I agree probiotics are in order. They should be standard for everyone who has had to take antibiotics.

If you have Tea Tree Oil handy, you can make a wipe solution out of that to use at every change. And if he isn't already in sposies, it's a good idea to switch to sposies until it's all cleared up and you've had a chance to strip your CDs.

We've been in disposables for a few weeks now so that's not a concern thankfully. I got a powdered Primadophilus for kids and gave him some to suck off my finger. Should I take a probiotic too?

It wouldnt hurt for you to take them as well. Every little bit helps.

Probiotics for you (at least 50 billions a day) and for your baby (I personally like Nature's Way brand (powder) they have it for infants and also for kids, depending on the age).

Low sugar diet is a must.

I also get Nature's Way brand. If you use cloth diapers, add a few drops of tea tree oil and/or grapefruit seed extract to the wash and perhaps sun them if possible. Also, limit sugar and help the area get air, as much as possible. Make sure he is dry after baths. I put jock itch cream on my son's YI at each diaper change for 10 days and it went away, also I did the tto and gse with the cloth. Never had another problem.

GL!

If you think the yeast could have come in contact with his cloth diapers, you will need to strip them with vinegar and hang them to dry in sunlight. The dryer will not kill yeast and it can be somewhat difficult to remove from cloth diapers.

You should get an infant probiotic supplement. Next time you use antibiotics, be sure to give him a probiotic supplement during and for one week following the antibiotic treatment. This will avoid yeast infection in the future.

You will want to cut all sugars, starches, and cow's milk out of yours and his diet. This includes fruit, juice, sweets, potatoes, etc. This is b/c yeast lives on sugar. You take the sugar out and it starves the yeast. Since you are breastfeeding you have to follow the diet too. It is a miserable diet but it works. My son had terrible systemic yeast which also circled his anus so I've had to endure this diet quite a bit, but it was totally worth it. You can read more about it by googling "the candida diet".

If you want to be sure you don't have any on your nipples you can get Citricidal Grapefruit Extract. That is the only brand you should buy. Drop 25-30 drops in 2oz of distilled water. Squeeze some on your nipples with a cotton ball after nursing and let dry. Don't rub your nipples, just squeeze it on.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted,
Jen
