books for toddlers?

My daughter and I share a LOVE of reading, but sometimes I find it hard to find great board books or books for the younger crowd that hold her her interest.

I have the Circle of Seasons books, a ton of Dr Seuss, the Princess in the Forest which, although for an older kid, she adores, and a ton of others but we are always looking for suggestions.

Books on nature/homesteading/earth awareness a plus.

I like "I'm not cute!" because the baby owl's expressions are just too perfect.

We love "Goodnight Moon", it is just a classic. The rhythm of it is so soothing for my little ones at bedtime. I read it for years to my dd, now I read it to ds. I even have it memorized so I can whisper it to him as he's laying down. My dd used to finish it when she was small...."Goodnight noises, everywhere" .....

We have also enjoyed The Rainbow Fish and love, love "Time for Bed" by Mem Fox. It is another that has a soothing rhythm (great agin for nap and bedtimes) and is easily "memorizable" so she can "read" along too. Any of Mem Fox's book sare really good. But this one is cool cause it's different animals, insects, etc. saying goodnight all the way to the end where the human mommy says goodnight.....each in their own special way. The pictures are awesome and I love that it includes things like a mommma and baby snake and a momma and baby bee. Has always helped my kids look at those creatures differently, with more empathy.

We enjoyed the rhythms in the Sandra Boynton books. They're fun to chant together!

The Carl books are fun, too, so long as you don't mind the baby having lots of adventures while the mom is off doing the shopping.

DS loves any books about trucks, trains, or cars... Me, not so much.

Our collective favorite is "I Love You Because You're You" by Liza Baker. We read it a LOT on days when he is being a headache to me. It's reassuring to both of us, I think.

If you're not anti-Disney, I love the Thumper book series because they all have such beautiful illustrations. But then again, I actually LIKE Disney.

Honestly what I do is go to the thrift store and go to the toddler section. They always have something there to find that I never would have thought to look up online.
