Hello all,
Wow it is so weird for it to be my turn to post!
Baby Mae was born this morning at 6:25.
I had been having regular contractions all evening but they were nothing to get serious about. I timed them at 3-4 minutes apart for a couple of hours but they were not getting stronger at all so I took a warm bath, drank some tea, and got myself to bed. Just a note, I have been having prodromal labor for the past two weeks so I was really tired of wondering if "this is it." And that made me really hesitant to think that this might be for real.
I called my MW to give her a heads up and fell asleep around 2 AM still having mild cramps. Throughout the night I kept waking up with them, noticing that they were uncomfortable and having to pee, but they hadn't gotten any stronger, so I kept going back to sleep.
I awoke a little before 6:00 to get up and pee again and for the first time had a "serious" contraction, one that took my breath away a bit. I decided to lie back down and see if I could get back to sleep but I immediately had another one so I got up to walk around a bit. I then had another one that was painful so I decided to call my MW. My cell phone said 6:00 on the dot.
My MW said she would get her things together and for me to time a few contractions and call her back with how far apart they were. Those 3 contractions were really intense, I was already starting to doubt if I could do this (stay home and not go in and get the epidural). And I thought to myself, this is way too soon for me to be in transition. I called my MW back, told her they were 3 minutes apart and had another one while I was on the phone with her that I could not talk through.
She said she was getting in the car and would be here in an hour and 15. I thought to myself, no way am I gonna have these kind of contractions for another hour so I got into the shower and tried to think of a position I could get into that would be some relief. I felt like squatting was my best option but the second time I went down into the squat I started feeling the urge to PUSH!!
I started crying and called my husband that I thought I needed to push and then the next contraction my water broke. It was a bit brown so I remember thinking the baby may have swallowed meconium. Then the contraction after that, I got the overwhelming urge to push and reached down to feel the head crowning! By this time my husband was right there, laying a towel down under me, I was on my knees, and he was supporting my perineum while I pushed the head out!
Then the next contraction came and I pushed her the rest of the way out, and she was born, we think the time was about 6:25 AM.
By this time my SIL was at the door so she and DH helped me to the bed where we waited for the contractions to start up again and my DH delivered the placenta while on the phone with the MW.
She arrived about 15 minutes after the placenta came out and was so wonderful helping us clean everything up, checking the baby and me out and just being so great. I really love my MW and although I am sad that she missed the birth, there is no way I would have wanted to wait another hour for that baby to come out!
My third baby had been pretty quick so my DH and I had prepared ourselves for the possibility of a UC since my MW lived an hour from us and I am sooo glad we did.
It amazes me how God designed our bodies to birth and how natural and normal it really is!
I am so thankful for all of the things I have learned from this site and for all of you ladies whose experiences have taught me so much. I am especially glad I read some of the UC birth stories now!
Baby Mae weighed 8lb. 4 oz. and was 20 3/4 in.
I got a small hairline tear which didn't need a stitch and is probably because I pushed her out too fast! But I am feeling great and babe is nursing like a pro and I am so happy to have her here, and still can't believe she is a girl!
