The time is pretty much here and I don't know what to do!

I lived a very naive life when I had DD1 and DS. They are both up to date on vaccinations, and never missed a well baby visit. Well, overtime we changed. We saw the light about so many things in life (mainstream society!) We now have an 8.5 week old who has been to well baby visits (few days, and two weeks) but did not receive the hep B at birth. Her two month check up is on Monday and I don't know what to do! I didn't do my research. Part of me wants to just do it all because I don't want to upset the ped that we've been seeing for nearly six years (really screwed up of me to think this way, but I have trouble standing up for myself and I hate confrontation). I deeply feel that DD2 doesn't need vaccines (especially right now!) but I like I said, I didn't do my research on this topic. I was thinking more along the lines of selective and/or delayed vaccinations, but I don't know! Please help me make an educated/informed decision! I only have two days!

I used to think this way. I could never imagine standing up for myself especially when it came to a doctor who was supposed to know what was best. I learned very quickly that if I didn't stand up for my daughter then who would? It is my responsibility as her mother to do what I feel is protecting her, whether that is no vaccines, all vaccines, or selective vaxing ( I chose no vax). Considering you are having trouble with this issue I would at least hold off for now.You can always give a vaccine but can never take one away. You don't have to tell the dr. that you are never going to vax, just tell him/her that you are researching into vaccines and dont want to make a hurried decision.

The appointment is not a deadline. If you're not sure, just say you're still researching and not doing any today.

I agree with PP's. This is not the time to make a desicion about vaxing. Admittedly you have not done the research so by default you shouldn't get any until you have had a chnace to do your research. I hate confrontation too and we have had to fire our first ped and find one more respectful of our choices (we dont vax at all right now). I have found this process of having to stand up for myself, my son and our beliefs incedibly empowering. This will help you grow believe it or not!

If a mechanic (who is considered an expert in cars) told you to buy a lexus because they are by far the best cars out there and to buy anything else would be crazy would you run right out and buy the lexus or would you look into other options, other cars, maybe consult consumer reports. It amazes me that people will just take a doctor's word as gospel. (not saying you do!) and not at least look ino the pro and cons of something for themselves.

You cannot possibly educate yourself on this subject in 36 hours. You can always give a vaccine, but you can never take one back.

Take some time to really research this subject and make a decision that you feel is best for you and for your child, not the decision that is best for your pediatrician.

Go to your appointment knowing that your pediatrician is going to push you to vaccinate. Your pedi may not push all of the vaccines, but will probably pick one that is "really important". Just be strong for your child and say that you promise to go home and give it a lot of thought. Then come spend some time on this board, read books (there are a ton of great recommendations that people on this board can give you), and do all the research you can. Vaccinating (even just one), is not a decision that should be taken lightly or without a good amount of research.

Congratulations on your new baby!

If there is ever any tiny doubt about doing something - don't do it. As pp's said, you can always vaccinate later (they won't run out of them anytime soon) - you can't take one back though. I would cancel the appointment and research however long it takes. Go one by one.

I've decided what I'm going to do!

Thanks everyone! I've decided what I'm going to do...

NOTHING! Not now anyway. I don't know why I couldn't figure this out. It's a pretty obvious thing. I guess I just wanted someone (you guys) to reassure me that it's okay

I'll tell her that DH and I still haven't agreed on what we're doing and I can't make a decision without him. (He won't be there) I'll have two more months (until her 4 month visit) to figure out what to do, if anything.

I'll be back to do my research and I'm sure I'll have questions!

Thanks guys! I love MDC!
