Postpartum Body Changes

Hi, All-

I gave birth about 2 weeks ago, and I still feel like my body hasn't snapped back totally yet... I'd like to go clothes shopping, but I have a sneaky suspicion nothing I buy now will fit right in a week or two.

How long does recovery take before the uterus is back to its normal size and the rest of the organs/skin return to their non-pregnant forms?

Two week is just a blip in the world of PP, especially when it comes to things moving back into the shape they were before pregnancy. My DD is 2.5 and seriously some of my clothes that I wore before just never fit the same again. My hips are just different than before, because I had a baby. I don't look that much different but some things were just never the same.

I always like to go by the theory of it took 9 months to get that way and 9 months to get back. But I am also one of those women who didn't lose that last 10 lbs from breastfeeding, they just stayed and still are here. Now I am pg again, so hopefully I don't gain what I did with my DD.

I bought some transitional jeans at 6wks and they were great.

ahh, the deflated souffle...

Even now, 9 months postpartum, I think there's some shifting etc (some of my pre-preg pants fit, and others do not). That said, I would get yourself some stretchy-waisted comfy skirts to wear starting NOW - they will likely fit you for the next 3-4 months or beyond. Get some shirts that are reasonably flattering too - your boobs will be huge for a good while, so you might as well get used to it. Your stomach will go down over the next 8-10 weeks, which will help the shirts fit better. I'm a big fan of having a couple of outfits that are comfortable and somewhat flattering for the first few months because, let's face it, we don't feel too pretty as new moms, eh? It's good for the morale

Technically, your uterus should be near to prepreg size after 6 weeks (hence the 6-week checkup) but the rest of you? A good while. You'll maybe be close in 6 months, but even when you're back to your prepreg weight, you may be shaped differently.

It took me about 8 months to get close to where I was before I got pregnant. But things were never quite the same. Be patient with yourself.

Even though I had lost all my preggo weight by 2 wks post-partum, it still took forever to get my stretched-out abs back in shape! So, none of my clothes fit, even though all the weight was gone. I agree with pps, it took a good 8 mo. before things were back to normal.

i'm 6 months post partum and i have two inches on my waist to loose to nbe back to my normal shape. i'm carrying more subcutaneous fat than i'm used to (on my belly and inner thighs).

otherwise, everything else feels pretty normal and looks pretty normal. i fit into most of my prepregnancy clothes, but i'm also still wearing the stuff that i bought about 6 weeks post partum. of course, those clothes are a bit baggy now, but they still fit.
