Tetanus while pregnant ??s

When I was about 16 weeks pregnant w/my son I was in a car accident...actually the gas pedal got stuck and I jumped from the car. I landed on my stomach and hit my head. I was taken to the ER where they literally had to scrape gravel from my stomach...they encouraged me to have a tetanus shot. I really wasn't in my right mind and they gave me the shot.

My son was born small at about 36 weeks. He's very bright but has a host of sensory issues but then my eldest has also...they are both probably on the spectrum but very high functioning (my odd was dx'd w/aspergers). Trying to figure out if my son's issues are a result of this vax or something that runs in the family? It's been 5.5 yrs but I still feel an awful lot of guilt....my son's issues will likely be w/him for the rest of his life.

Does anyone know what effect the tetanus vax might have on an unborn child?

I'm assuming that your son is otherwise unvaccinated??

Did you get the Tdap or the TIG?

Well i don't have any concrete info for you- but all i can say is that I hope u can learn to try to let go feeling guilty for doing what you thought was best in the situation.
I don't vax my kids at all but honestly in that situation I prob would've gotten the vax as well.
Hugs! and I'm sorry that you worry you may have done some harm.
All I thought when I read that story is "Wow, that's amazing that u were in an accident like that and your son is ALIVE"
You sound like a GREAT mom!

Thanks for your responses!

Marnica: Yes, my son is otherwise unvax'ed. I don't know what the shot was.
Dtap is probably worse isn't it?

Brenda: Thanks so much for your kind words! I was actually on my way to a prenatal check-up and I almost took my then 2 yo dd w/me...the nightmares still come about this. My son survived because it was so early on that he was well cushioned (according to the drs).
