I bought some and prep them already, they seem big compared to the flats I used w/ DS (can't remember where I got those from). They almost look to big to use on a newborn but they are all I have(I do have a few of the other ones I use w/ DS but they are not in the best quality), anybody use them w/ a newborn, what fold did you use?

I was just going to post about these! Are the GM flats a little thicker than say gerber flats made out of birdseye? I know that you can go online and check of videos of different ways to fold the dipes to fit your lo.... can't remember the site though. I would try to figure out a way to fold them without cutting them so you can use them as your lo grows.

I started using GMD flats on DD starting at about one month when she was already about 12.5 lbs, and yes, they're bigger than most other brands. I fold in half, then in half again to form a square...from that point I adjust the rise by folding down whatever side is going to be the back, which makes kind of a poop pocket. I used to fold the sides in a little as well. Basically I used one of my periwinkle edge PF's as a size-template and adjusted my fold to make it roughly the same size. Width isn't as important as getting a better fit in the rise. Once you have the rise, lay the baby on it and do the angel wing fold, trifolding the material that comes up between the legs like a prefold. It's a little bulky, but nice and absorbent. I definitely would not cut them, just really practice with them until you get something that works for now. It doesn't have to be pretty while they're this little, jut absorbent.
Try also making sure that the edge of the square that has the seams is at the back, that way you reduce the bulk that you are bringing up between the legs.

hmmmm....I used GMD (which I loved by the way) and never noticed anything different. For my first I made the mistake of thinking "premium" was referring to quality and my poor baby had the fluffiest butt. For my second I splurged and bought infant sized and they were perfect until we were ready for the regulars.

Thanks, these flats are bigger and thicker than the ones I had for my son, I just layed them by each other. I have a few of my sons old flats and prefolds (not the best now some have some holds) but they are the right size for her right now. I have enough of those for at least a day and a half. So I would more likely use those with a few of the GMD for now. I will try more folds w/ the GMD but I did the orgami one, the square folded one and they all so bulky. I am washing now just so I can use back my old flat diapers for now.
I am going to try make some fitted ones too. The bulk just look so uncomfortable right now w/ the GMD flats.

I don't know if you want to spend anymore money right now but Integrity Diaper Company has pinked flats that are only $11 a dzn right now. Folded in the oragami they are as small as GMD newborn prefolds in the rise... I was thinking how these will make a really nice newborn diaper until my GMD and IV start to work. They would be way less bulky that the GMD flats that I have. Those are still biggish on my 2yo! But then I have small kiddos.....Hope that might help some
