to vax or not (boosters) at 5 years old?

Thread Starter
my son is 5 years old and due for a "wellness" visit. i've never done much research into vaxing, but i've been against it at a deeply gutteral/instinctive level since my son was born, yet always went ahead with it because of pressure from doctors (and husband). at 18 month i do feel that my son went through a big change - after vaxxing was very crabby for weeks, and we entered a long spell (years) of being more sensitive to people, afraid of peers, lots more sensory issues. this may have just been developmental, or there before and i just wasnt as aware of it, but who knows. i do know he was very cranky for weeks after the 18 month shots. now he is somewhat aspergersy (but so are my husband and i slightly aspergersy) and he still has sensory issues but has come a long, long way. i think that 18 months was the last time he was vaxxed. (i dont think he got any at 2 years, and i know he hasnt had any since after 2.)

i'm wondering about not vaxxing anymore. i'd like to do some research but would like to hear your opinions as a short cut, and then get some suggested reading from you.

some of my questions are:
if he's had all his shots up until now, is he worse off in some way if i dont get boosters? (worse off than if i hadnt vaccinated at all?)

since he is partially vaxxed is he almost as protected as he would be if i do get boosters now?

if i did continue to vax now, is he less at risk for developing autism since he is 5?

what are other concerns/risiks if i did boosters now, and are they less than the previous risks since he has been through several rounds and is now 5?

can you summarize the risks of vaxxing now vs. the benefits, or point me in a direction to find that info?

if i dont do boosters now, is there another option to ending vaxxing that makes sense, like doing them at a later date? what would be the rational for this?

if i skip them now, is he less at risk for adverse reactions if i do them when he is older?

any other thoughts?

i am leaning away from getting him vaxxed now, but wanted to hear your thoughts. i have been to tanzania several times myself, and hope to go there some day with him. i dont know what shots would make sense if we made that trip, but i assume i could worry about that then.

thanks for your thoughts and your suggestions for further research!

I was in your shoes in November. I declined all vaccines. The MMR is a 2nd shot NOT a booster. Something like 96% of kids get immunity with the first shot. I also found out about the fetal tissue since then I am not doing the chicken pox for the same reason.

I would do a lot of reading...you can find resources above...
In the meantime, if you feel really pressured to do boosters, but are apprehensive, I would AT MOST request from the Dr. a script to pull blood, check titers (current immunity)-your child may already have a built up immunity and you may not even need to be concerned with the worry about vaccines.
All of your other questions revolve around the risks/harms of vax'g...or not...
I would think that at any age, injections of neurotoxins and harmful preservatives that are in vax's are just plain unhealthy and I SUSPECT lead to a lot of the adult onset mental difficulties/problems we are seeing more and more of....

You can stop vaxing at any time...he will not be "worse off" having had some and then stopping. I agree with above poster. I think vaxing at any age can have negative effects that we may not see for years.

We didn't do any of the "needed" boosters when DS turned 5 and started school. Yeah to what PP said. You can stop anytime!

You could have his titers checked to see if a booster is really needed at all.
