Do prefolds/covers work with onesies?

I asked for onesies at my baby shower (mainly in the newborn & 0-3 months sizes since I'm having a summer baby and most of our time will be spent at home). I heard that onesies don't work well with prefolds/covers. Is that true? Are all my onesies not going to work with the prefolds/covers?

My kids all wore prefolds. They all wore onesies, too. A bulky diaper might mean that your child needs larger sizes sooner, but that's it.

My DD successfully wore prefolds and covers with onesies as newborn. She was a June baby. But she was big and never fit into newborn or 0-3 clothes even without the diaper bulk.

My dd wears prefolds with onsies all the time.

Yup - we used em a lot, too. It's just now that ds is 2 yr that I've mostly stopped using them... You just might have to size up at times.

Absolutely, we did that all the time. I think this time I'm going to go with fleece pants instead of diaper covers, though, since I'm having a winter baby :, and those won't work with onesies so I'm going to ask for snap-side shirts instead.

Don't they have extenders for the onsie crotch snaps???

They do make extenders for the snap area of the onesie. I just saw some at babies r us, which i thought was cool. But I used prefolds and onesies with both my kids without any issues.

Yeah, it should be fine. I just hate onesies b/c it is another step in dressing them. Plus, I like when the shirt rides up to show that cute diaper in back!

It also matters greatly what brand of onesies you have! I used prefolds and covers with my babe and we always had to size up on the Gerber brand. He only fit in Newborn Gerber for about a week (and he was a small 6 pound dude) because they were so much smaller than the newborn ones I had that were Circo (Target brand) or Carters.

The covers usually stick out a bit at the leg holes but l loved the look of the bright colored cover poking out

HI, I think it is a matter of preference. I never liked them because thes are cotton and would wick out wettness and then I would have to change the whole baby. I started making wool onsies or Up cycled onesies that were half wool or fleece and that it a great option for winter.

DD has always worn a lot of onesies w/ prefolds...never a problem...
