just wanted to report that my 3-mo-old baby's terrible, severe eczema is finally disappearing!
:
i have been on an almost-total elimination diet for 24 days now. here's what i am eating: all grass-fed organic meats & poultry, all veggies ('cept potatoes), all fruit, rice, quinoa & buckwheat.
i started out cutting out the top 6 allergens, and then kept cutting back. at one very low point, i added back wheat for a few days -- and paid for that sorely (i guess it was a form of trialing
).
my baby's skin is totally clear except for a little remaining rash on his legs. and we have come a long way from horrible, weeping, crusting sores all over his body, face and scalp. last night was our best non-itchy night in a month.
anyway, i just wanted to post this to tell anyone who is struggling with their ED (and i hit some very low points along the way), that the results are so worth it
.
i also wanted to add that it took far longer to "work" than i was led to believe. (we only used cortisone about 3 times, so i'm confident that it is the diet). it took a good 3 weeks for a radical improvement, not a few days. yes, i'm still sometimes hungry and i'm borderline underweight, but i didn't lose my milk supply, and my baby is now happy and clear-skinned.
thanks to all the ladies here for very valuable information and support. (we see an allergist today, but regardless of what happens there i have regained confidence in my own ability to make my baby better

) i left the appointment very frustrated, and realized we'll have to figure this out largely on our own (her diet's "sample breakfast" included "rice krispies and apple juice." yes, that's great nutrition for a nursing mother
