How do I officially find out if I have ppd? Should I trust my family counselor?

If you already have a therapist, then they can be a great help. Otherwise, there is a quiz in one of the stickies above.

when i went to my family physician to tell him i was feeling depressed he told me to come back when i had finished nursing my son.

i didn't get a second opinion and i ended up very sick and in a mental hospital.
i lost everything.

take care of yourself so you can be the best mama you can be for you child.

The above post makes me so sad.

DO NOT rely on your family doc to help you with PPD. They are clueless. A lot of OB's are, too.

Go to a therapist or psychiatrist that has a special interest in PPD. You can find one at www.postpartum.net.

I would also recommend getting another opinion. My doctor told me I wasn't depressed, and I've been struggling for 8 months now and finally went to the Mental Health Unit to get assistance.

It's so hard when you know you don't feel right, but are told otherwise and question yourself. Good luck Momma!
