Bum Genius for Newborns

Both of my babies were on the larger side, especially #2 who was 8 lbs, 10 oz (#1 was a lot smaller and more slender, at 7 lbs 11 oz). You think a bum genius will fit from birth for this baby? I have some diapers already and I'm going to supplement my (smallish after it's been through 2 kids) stash with some Kissaluvs Os. I'm mostly just curious.

Our newborn weighs about 9lbs now and BumGenius fit him great. They look a little bulky, but the fit is good.

My son was 9lbs 5 at birth, but I found that until his umbilical stump came off the BG's didn't quite work. As soon as it fell off, he went right into BG's, and Happy Heiney's - both are the one size pockets. They've worked great for the past 6 months - the fit has always been easy to customize.

Seems like for a bigger baby they will generally work, it's just that some people don't like the bulk on their nb. My ds was 6 lb-ish at birth, so I'm planning for a nb stash. If my babe is small this time, I think they might drown in a one-size at first.

I used them and my DD was 6 lbs once her weight dropped. I found that they would sometimes leak without the doubler though. They are bulky but they worked.

Good question. I am switching to pockets from prefolds this time. I can't wait to try my BG stash, but I have KL0s and XS FBs as well. Hopefully something will fit.

Yeah I plan on the bulk of my stash being KLOs, but I want a bunch of the bum genius to becuase they are one sized and just for the simplicity factor.

We used BG on our 9lb baby from about 10 lbs, on. They leaked before that, but it could have been user error. They worked great (and still do @ 3 mo.).

Figured out that DS soaks the front of the dipe, so I just fold the longer insert in half and stick the smaller insert between it (full length) and stuff, with the beefier 3-layer end towards the front. Easier and none of that snapping nonsense, either.

BG 3.0's fit my newborn really well but he was 10+lbs.

BGs didn't fit DS2 until he was over 10 lbs. To be honest with you, I wouldn't buy them again. We have 15 OS BG 3.0's and have used them for a little over a year in large rotation and the elastic is shot on at least 3 and the velcro doesn't work well anymore on any of them. I think they now have them with snaps, go for the snaps because the velcro does not hold up well.

This is around the weight we started using them on DD2.
