Advice?

I found a local store that sells cloth diapers! (so excited! LoL) I was hoping that I could list off some of the stuff they carry and get recommendations on what to try. We will be having a baby boy at the beginning of August and would like to cloth diaper from the start. I plan on mostly prefolds with covers, but wouldn't mind some fitteds too.

These are some of the covers they have:
Found on this page
Bumkins
Imse Vimse Soft Cover
Imse Vimse Velour
Imse Vmise Wool
ABC wrap (Swaddlebees)
A fleece wrap, but no name mentioned
There are two different wool wraps mentioned. Both from Swaddlebees (one is snap and the other is Aplix)

Any opinions?

I like wool for older babies, but for a newborn, I preferred PUL covers, such as the waterproof covers listed. I haven't tried any of those covers, though. I wanted to do prefolds and wool straight from the start, but I got tired of cleaning newborn poo off those tiny wool covers all the time, so I switched to PUL covers for the first few months since I could just throw them in the wash. But that's just me, and I did have two in diapers at the time.

I think you could totally go with just prefolds and wool. That's great that you have a local store with such nice stuff.

I only have one Imse Vimse but I love it! It's super soft on the inside and out and I like how adjustable it is.

We LOVE the imse vimse covers, and have used them since day 1 - first in the preemie size and right now DD is in a size small (she's 4 months, approx 12 lbs). I love them for many reasons:

nice and soft

waterproof (and they've never ever leaked for us)

no red elastic marks on baby, ever - I noticed that a lot of other covers (and diapers for that matter) have elastic along the back that lies stiffly against baby's back, leaving marks no matter how tight it is. Imse vimse covers have elastic in the back but it is sewn so that it lies flat - you'll see what I mean when you look at the covers in the store.

and the cotton part is nice too.

We use the imse vimse covers during the day and a wool soaker at night. Wool is wonderful for extreme softness against baby when she'll be lying down for a long time, plus it's breathable. But it is a PAIN to clean poop off, which is something we've just learned to live with b/c we do like the wool so much for the other reasons.

Of those choices, I would go with Imse Vimse Soft, which is a good basic cover; you could also try the wool. Imse Vimse is a good brand. Bumkins products tend to be overpriced at best and rough around the edges at worst. And Swaddlebees products, although they have a lot of good features, tend to wear out faster than other brands.

If you're using prefolds, finding the right cover will make you or break you...hopefully make you.
